New Navigation Box for Memphis Metro Area

Hey, what a great compilation of Memphis information this article is! So many facets of Memphis are highlighted and nicely documented.

In December 2007 the new Navigation box for Memphis, Tennessee and the Memphis Metro area was created by ArkansasTraveler (Thank you for that!) and added at the end of all identified articles relating to Memphis and the Memphis Metro Area. This way, every Memphis Metro Area article is linked to all the others for improved browsing between topics in a structure of related articles.

Here is how it looks like:

Some of the topics in the navigation box are still waiting to be filled with information.

Are there opinions on moving some of the content from the Memphis, Tennessee article to the sub-articles above? This is not an easy copy and paste task with a long and popular article like this and requires some expert help not to leave a great article it in a mess.

The reason why I suggest it is that the Memphis article is filled with so much high quality and specific information that some topics deserve articles of their own, in my opinion.

The sections in the Memphis article, like the history section Memphis_Tennessee#History, could be used as they are in a new article History of Memphis, Tennessee, they might just need a summary at the beginning to introduce the reader to the topic, followed by the section from the Memphis article and re-arrangement of images. The summary would be the expert part. In an ideal case, there would be a few paragraphs of summary of the topic, accompanied by an image if available. The references for the information should be handled very carefully, so it is not removed from the old location where it is needed and that it accompanies the information in the split-off article as well.

After the split, the history section of the Memphis, Tennessee article would be marked like this, right under the header of the sub section:

... and it could be followed by a summary of the old section. The summary at the beginning of the new article could be similar to the summary of the corresponding article formed from that section. The Memphis article would be shortend considerably and I predict that the images are much easier to place in separated articles, and in the Memphis article as well. Another advantage I see is that the article can be maintained much more easily and would be better protected angainst vandalism, even. Also, experts on sub topics of Memphis might be encouraged to add high quality information.

Are there ideas, opinions, objections or support? Any comment or contribution is welcome!

I don't have a lot to say, other than I agree that implementing summary style here is a good idea. · jersyko talk 02:32, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
As there were no negative comments for a while, I started to move information to their respective articles. I moved the complete content of the "Geography and climate" section and the "Tallest buildings" to the new article Geography of Memphis, Tennessee. In this article I have placed the main article tag to link to that article and I have shortened the content to summary style.
I did not want to change too much at a time, that's why I used the cut and paste method. Help is welcome to integrate the changed content better and maybe for reformulations in this and the new article. doxTxob \ talk 22:43, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
The main topics have been moved to these new sub pages of the article:
In this article, the topics have been marked with the main article tag to refer to the corresponding sub topics in their own articles. Tis doen not only shorten the Memphis article considerably, it also reflects the structure of the subject and encourages to add new material to the topic in the sub sections.
The new articles are not perfect, they were built from the informatinon of the Memphis article and an introduction has been added. I have slightly re-arranged content and images but not to a great extend. No new information has been added, no information has been deleted, the information has just been re-arranged in new articles and shortened to summary style in this article.
The images from the corresponding sections in this article have been used to illustrate the new articles.
Help is very welcome to polish the new articles and to add new information to them for a nice reading experience. doxTxob \ talk 07:04, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Talk page archives

I have prepared archives for this talkpage and have moved the older content there. Links to the archives can be found in the top right corner of this talk page. The following I admit: I did not read all the topics before I moved them. Should I have cut out a topic that is still relevant currently, please move it back, or start it new and accept my apology. doxTxob \ talk 23:21, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
