Possible phonetical evolution from basque to portuguese variant
editGiven the laws phonological evolution of Portuguese, a reconstructed evolution from the original basque 'mendotza' might go as following: mendotza => mendõtsa (by nasalization, and written as 'mendonça' - the original pronunciation of ç seems to have been 'ts') => mendõsa (assimilation). editMendoza is from Aragon. 63 houses all infantadas or princess household. Google Casa fuerte Mendoza you will see their Fortrize and towers. Mendoza town in victoria Spain is the first Mendoza in Navarra.
They father Zambrana, haro, llaudio etc.

Bogus Basque etymology
editThis name is more likely from Latin "menda" (a bodily defect, blemish), if not related to mentir (to lie), cf. mendaz (false, mendacious). The adjective-forming suffix -ozo/-oza (also written -oso/-osa) is found in several Spanish and Portuguese surnames, for example Barboza, Barroso, Cardozo, Espinoza, Pedroza, Somoza, Veloso. 83.137.6.58 (talk) 21:30, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
