Purpose and use of the building, greater significance

edit

I noticed that this article doesn't really include anything about the original purpose and use of the building. I happened to find this article when reading about a reference to this building elsewhere and then looking it up on Wikipedia. My finding says that the building once received signal relays from George Sweeney and Theodore E. Baugh's electric telegraph wire from stations that were interconnected with that at Telegraph Hill, San Francisco. These two men were members of the exchange and provided this signaling service to its fellows in the business community who were waiting for arriving ships. This history is significant to that of the building, the City of San Francisco, as well as San Jose and Silicon Valley, as well as California state. This project began as an intra-San Francisco service; but, another company eventually took the telegraph line to San Jose (first outer station) and Stockton and Sacramento, ultimately to Marysville.[1]

Note: See additions to Wikipedia article Silicon Valley for brief about this history. Ca.papavero (talk) 21:11, 2 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
