POV stuff about Gomba, and lack of balance

edit

Have attempted to start a clean up of this article; previous editors appear to have concentrated fire on Gomba Holdings and individuals connected to it, so there was a lot of irrelevant stuff about matters only marginally connected to the Mermaid in there. More seriously, in my humble opinion, much of it might be actionable so needed to come out. As a general point, more than half the article seemed to be about a) people who owned it, and b) lengthy quotes from people who wanted to save it - but precious little about the theatre's achievements over the years it was active. Previous ownership

edit

Who originally owned the theatre, and who was it that sold it to Gomba ? -- Beardo (talk) 02:57, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Productions

edit

Were there any plays which premiered there - they should be mentioned. I think I saw some plays there in the 80s which RSC transfers from the Barbican. -- Beardo (talk) 03:00, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

At least one -- Rockets in Ursa Major by astronomer Fred Hoyle. It opened 11 April 1962 and ran for 6 weeks to decidedly weak reviews. I know because I was a performer. El Ingles (talk) 22:16, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nonsensical introductory "fact"

edit

"most recently built in the City since the time of Shakespeare" - that doesn't say anything, does it? Shouldn't it be just "the most recently built in the City."?

The idea of "most recently" doesn't go with "since" - you could just as correctly say "the most recently built theatre since Roman times". Or am I missing something? ZoneAlarm5 (talk) 15:52, 28 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
