editPound my behind
editPounds and feet, really? what happened to the metric system, or at least having the metric value of stated pound/yard/foot/whatever written within ()? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BB:440:66:F53A:E085:38A2:D8F7 (talk) 19:44, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
US Metal Theft additions
edit2008 news coverage in Atlanta has shown copper piping to be one of the hottest new commodities to steal from foreclosed houses - I would like to add that coverage and info in to this section. In general, the news from US can be updated.
Because of the recent rise of theft, there has also been some significant progress made in the US to fight and prevent it, with the National Crime Prevention Council and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries both largely involved. I would like to add information about this to the US section, and include some of the things that the two groups have done to reduce the metal theft issue. Power cable theft
editThere have been several fatalities in UK of miscreants attempting to steal copper cables from electricity sub-stations. These idiots should be nominated for Darwin awards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.85.135.51 (talk) 12:38, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Conducrete a conductive concrete would help reduce copper theft but people need to understand the concept. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.166.180.185 (talk) 15:41, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
Intrinsic vs Extrinsic
editIntro says "Whereas other items are generally stolen for their intrinsic value, items with metal are stolen for their more or less extrinsic value as raw material or commodities." but according to Intrinsic value (numismatics) shouldn't it be the other way round ? The whole attempt to provide a different motivation seems flawed and superfluous. - Rod57 (talk) 07:16, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Not sure I understand. I thought that "extrinsic" was the equivalent of "what an item is worth as itself, intact" versus "intrinsic" as "its worth as raw materials". --Auric talk 15:32, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Not encyclopedic
editMetal theft is a frequent, worldwide phenomenon. It'd be impossible to list every incidence of metal theft in any one country, let alone multiple. I suggest overhauling the examples section with statistics for each country and newsworthy incidents like the destruction of monuments or statues (and removing countries for which there aren't any statistics or important incidents), while removing the local newspaper-like reports of amounts recovered. Tranquilled (talk) 18:48, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- Agree strongly This article should contain encyclopedic information and very notable metal thefts metal gets stolen all the timeSassmouth (talk) 04:30, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Light metal wheels of cars/trucks
editRim – "sporty" and designed – usually cast (and milled) of an alloy of aluminium (and magnesium), often as heavy as steel rims have pretty hight material value. They are sometimes stolen, but are protected by prohibitive costs auf dismantling the tire. Protection is promised by bolts (or nuts; use at least one per wheel) with an irregular shape, that makes simple tools useless. --Helium4 (talk) 10:02, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
