MEXMex – The majority of terms are capitalised this way. An anonymous username, not my real name 23:51, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

MexMex (disambiguation) – The "Mex" title should redirect to the country Mexico, given the overwhelming common usage of "Mex" as an abbreviation for Mexico and the lack of usage of "Mex" for other topics.

"Mex" is a well-known abbreviation for Mexico in contexts like international sporting events (e.g., FIFA, Olympic Games), airport codes (MEX for Mexico City International Airport), and by global media outlets.

Commonly recognized abbreviations of countries or entities are redirected to the primary topic: USA redirects to the United States, UK redirects to the United Kingdom, and UAE redirects to the United Arab Emirates. Consistency in naming conventions makes it logical for "Mex" to redirect to Mexico, the most recognized association with the term.

Other uses of "Mex" would still be accessible to users who need them. A hatnote can be added to the top of the country’s article directing users for the other topics here:

  • Per WP:DPT, let's have a look at some statistics. WikiNav for Mex illustrates the incoming readership and clickstreams for last month (July '24), and it looks like there were a total of 316 views, and in turn we could identify 48 outgoing clicks to the airport and 19 to the country. That's just 15% and 6%, respectively, so it doesn't look like there's a primary topic by usage. The link to the proposed primary topic already seems to be quite prominent. Why would we think short-circuiting this would lead to better outcomes for the average reader? --Joy (talk) 17:20, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose other than 2 dictionary results no Google results appear to be for the country but the Wikipedia article Mex (mathematics) does come up. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:52, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
