Name

It would appear that Miami Beach is on an island. But what is the name of the island?

Post Holocaust

The "Post Holocaust" section doesn't even mention the Holocaust. Either the section should tie Miami Beach to the Holocaust, or if the link is not firm enough then that section heading is inappropriate. (Sobesurfski 15:44, 12 June 2006 (UTC))

NPOV

I added the NPOV-template because of many unsourced claims. Sentences like "During the winter season of January to March, celebrities, fashion models and wealthy Europeans make the city a second home, and rates at some of the best hotels can be astronomical." without any sources seem to be original research to me. Images

Article had a huge pile of indiscriminate images in a gallery, the majority without even any description. I slashed it ruthlessly. If someone wishes to take time for a more careful and considered selection of photos, they are certainly welcome to. However recall that Wikipedia articles should not be galleries of large numbers of images. But the article on the Peloponnese starts off by saying, "The Peloponnese or Peloponesus is a large peninsula." LGBT

The current content on the LGBT community in Miami beach is completly arbitrary and does nothing more thant to stigmatize and scare away LGBT tourists. This sort of writing has no place in Wiki. It must be re-written at once!!!! Added NPOV tag; section is completely one-sided and the descriptions of the accusations against the city and the police are quite weaselly. I'm certain there is a way to describe the accusations of corruption/homophobia without pronouncing judgment on either the mayor or the police dept. --SchutteGod (talk) 17:40, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Facts are facts, 2009 events with the police department were nationally and internationally reported by major media outlets and discussed by many LGBT organizations. Hiding a fact about such a serious hazard for gay men in Miami Beach, just so the mayor and the city looks nice, is not in line with Wikipedia principals. This is not the city of Miami Beach website, where you can put promotional info. The section is balanced more now, but some previously added pro city statements still need to be cited. Also, this is about Miami Beach, not Miami-Dade, Miami, Florida, San Francisco etc. Do not cite organizations that are not in Miami Beach. Citing other Wiki pages as a source also is against the rules of Wikipedia. I removed the link about the gayest cities. Being the last on the list that doesn't even include NY is not a legitimate fact about Miami Beach, especially when the list is created by a paid staff of a magazine. Re: section on Jewish population

The name of one conservative synagogue has been added by name to a statement that there are many conservative synagogues in Miami Beach. I almost reverted that as promotionalism, but then I noticed there is just one liberal synagogue named. This can be approached in more than one way; name all of the synagogues (I think that might be excessive), name only those synagogues that have historical significance (citing reliable sources for that significance), or don't name any of them. -- Donald Albury 11:44, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Nonsense in Middle American history

I have removed the whole Middle American history section as none of it was sourced, most of it was pure fantasy, and most of it had nothing to do with Miami Beach. I have removed this nonsense before. I am quite confident that no one will be able to find a reliable source for the fantasy parts, and I will regard any attempt to restore any of the material that is not supported by reliable sources as being not constructive for Wikipedia. -- Donald Albury 11:34, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

14,000 gallons per minute is quoted widely. The four initials doing 4,000 per minute as written in the article, is that all four or each? 1,000 gallons per minute wouldn't be a lot. Not any more than a mobile pump could probably do. B137 (talk) 07:30, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

City's rank in Demographics section

The last paragraph in the Demographics section is a list of where the city ranks among US cities in the percentage of its residents who have come from various, primarily Latin American, countries. The rankings are based on a site that has not been updated since 2005. The site does not explicitly give the rankings, which apparently were found by counting the cities that appear above Miami Beach on the site's list for each country. I question the suitability of this site for this information. I also question the value of this information for inclusion in a Wikipedia article. Hardly of encyclopedic importance. Notice that the decades-long history of spring breaks in Ft. Lauderdale is summed up in four sentences. I just reverted a bunch of mostly unsourced comments alleging racism and anti-Semitism in the city's history. While there are valid points raised, the language was not NPOV. These topics need to be treated in an NPOV manner, and with citations to reliable sources that support any added content.
