Tasteless
editI highly doubt that the residents of Mianus (snigger) are impressed really
Still funny though
Jackass Reference
editEven though this is a stub, and needs lots of work, the Jacakss reference should not be in the first paragraph. Things like that belong at the end of a article for geographical articles regardless of the fact that the show is more well known than the city. Its just not good form. --Brentt 00:54, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Town?
editThe original form of the article said it is a "locality" in conneticut, but then said "the town is...". Is it a town or just a "locality"? --Brentt 01:23, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Not town, not high school
editMianus is a local that is part of Greenwich, Ct. It has no town, per se. North Mianus School is an elementary school. I am unsure whether it now has a "national reputation that draws students from across the country." I know the Greenwich High School, the one public high school that North Mianus School feeds students into (after a couple of years at one of the town's junior high schools) does have a national reputation that draws students from across the country.
Its a neighborhood, really. We don't really even have our own Zip Code. 69.119.98.236 (talk) 18:08, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Astronomy Question
editOn a clear night, can you see Uranus from Mianus? Is Mianus best viewed during a full moon?
- That depends on the lighting you have at home. If you can't afford lamps, full moon should be a good idea.--Keimzelle 12:39, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi. Well, it helps to know exactly where it's located by means of a star map or online map that shows you Uranus' current position and/or celestial cooridinates. The full moon will make it harder to find Uranus, but if there is no light pollution and Uranus is far from the moon or very close then it's fine. Make sure you use the right magnification, as Uranus is a very tiny bluish disk in telescopes and rarely ever shows any detail. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 22:32, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
How do you pronouce Mianus?
editIf Johnny got it wrong? 82.16.7.63 18:19, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Ditto. We want to know now. 205.228.73.11 14:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I would guess it's "mee-annis" or "my-annis" --AW 16:23, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, you guess is as good as anyone's - no good at all. We want to hear from people who actually live in Mianus. The closest to a verifiable source so far is Johnny's seemingly genuine interviews to locals who never appeared to correct him. 83.67.217.254 21:39, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
That the locals never corrected Johnny is immaterial. You don't really think this was an unedited tape, do you? Of course they weren't going to run the parts where the locals spoil the joke. FWIW, my wife is from Greenwich, albeit not from Mianus proper, and she's heard it pronounced "my anise" all her life. I still call it "my anus" just to get her goat. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xrlq (talk • contribs) 16:47, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
As a local, I can say that it's pronounced "My-annis." 69.119.98.236 (talk) 18:07, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Requested move
editMoved article as proposed and removed notice. Gjs238 (talk) 12:19, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- All the other neighborhoods in Fairfield County, Connecticut are either not qualified or are qualified by the Towns they are located in, not with the word "neighborhood" - I don't understand why Mianus should be treated differently. Gjs238 (talk) 13:06, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Support a different move: I support the renaming of this article, but not necessarily to Mianus (Greenwich). Mianus is certainly not a common word and the disambiguation page at Mianus is unnecessary, with only three things listed and none of them ambiguous. The article Mianus (on the neighbourhood) could simply have a "For the article on the river, see..." and same for the river bridge. Seems a much clearer course of action. - move to mianus with hatnotes per maedin. Adding greenwich is useless since other uses are also in greenwich. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.52.142.5 (talk) 06:38, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Moot it's been over two years now, this move request has been dead for quite awhile. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 14:52, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
