Descendants
editThere are other De Tolly descendants but do not carry the name as Nicholas S. DeTolly son of Marie-Louise had no sons. Nicholas was my wife's Great-grandfather and we would be interested to hear from others and try to form more complete tree. Thanks, kandl2009@gmail.com(75.136.150.145 (talk) 05:19, 21 May 2013 (UTC))
Hmmmm, are you sure ??? Since the 1960's the Barclay de Tolly family has resided in Rhode Island, United States. My children and their cousins are the last known generation of the Barclay de Tolly family (edited by A. Barclay de Tolly). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.14.27.33 (talk • contribs) 02:34, 6 April 2007, moved to talk page by --Turbothy 08:50, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

The descendants of Field Marshal Prince Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly are as follows- Prince Michael Andreas B de T married Helene Auguste Elenore von Smitten and they had a son, Ernst Magnus B de T who married first, Baroness Leocadie von Campenhausen ( no issue ) and 6 years after her death he married Alexandra Wilhelmine von Cramer ( no issue ) the widow of Baron Georg von Tisenhausen. Tsar Alexander 11, desiring to provide for the continuation of the hereditary princely Barclay de Tolly line ,chose an heir to the title, the eldest grandson of the Prince's sister Christine and son of his dear niece Christel. Christel had married Wilhelm Peter Jost von Weymarn in 1822 and their son, Alexander Magnus von Weymarn received the title in 1872 becoming the first Prince Barclay de Tolly Weymarn. The Weymarns, originally called Weimar or Weimer , came from Lubeck to Courland around 1600 moving to Livonia in 1693 when they were ennobled. @ According to the russian wikipedia, Tolly comes from the name of the town Towy, Towie (Tolly) in Aberdeenshire.
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%91%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%BA%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B9-%D0%B4%D0%B5-%D0%A2%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BB%D0%B8,_%D0%9C%D0%B8%D1%85%D0%B0%D0%B8%D0%BB_%D0%91%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%B4%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87
So, Barclay de Tolly obviously means: Barclay from Towy/Tolly.
Although, I have to admit, that the only thing, I've found on googlemaps, was a river named Burn of Tolly in Aberdeenshire.
But according to the source "They came to Russia during the times of the Revolution of 1688, from Towy (Tolly) in
Aberdeenshire." http://www.electricscotland.com/history/russia/scorus9.pdf

Birthplace Luhde-Grosshof near Walk, Livonia
editSources like [1] [2] say he was born at the family estate called Luhde-Grosshof [3] [4] in Kirchspiel Luke/Lugden, near Walk, Livonia. The modern day equivalent is Paju manor in Tõlliste Parish near Valga, Estonia, not far from former Valga (air base). See Google maps. -- Matthead Discuß 02:50, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
