Recent arrest

I removed the inline entry about his recent arrest and the citation. I'm not sure how relevant it is to the article... It was covered heavily in the SF Weekly, but then again, Brandon does have a history with drugs. Since this article is about a porn star, I tend to want to shy away from including his off-set biography. Bastique demandez 17:13, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Unclear why you would do that but the Sf Weekly article pretty clearly shows the connection which could be expanded a bit. he was the poster child for a citywide and online no to meth campaign but apparently started using again. Even if this were only about his porn career it would be hard not to cover his advocacy work as a part of that; but the article is about his entire life. There's lots of content to be added but this certainly seems worth mentioning. -- Banjeboi 20:21, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
In the September 2002 issue of Gay News Netherlands Michael Brandon was interviewed and he spoke of his new and brilliant life full of awards and wonderful friends. He mentioned that he spent 8 years in prison for drugs and then 3 on parole and was off probation in June of 2002. Brandon is noted in the gay / porn communities of NYC, West Hollywood and SFO for being a pillar of light to assist others to get off drugs. It has been rumored that Brandon has been using since the summer of 2005! He was arrested and DEFINITELY FACES A IMPRISONMENT - - recent pics of him makes him look quite old and haggared!

Just as a personal note I met knew Brandon from 200-2004 and I hope and pray that his disease of addiction will be overcome and he can get his life together again! THIS ARREST AND HIS 'DRUG CULTURE' are extremely relevant to this WP article and SHOULD be mentioned! Roz Lipschitz (talk) 22:34, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
The SF Weekly article laid out a pretty solid route for including this content. He used his former addiction as inspiration to others to get clean and used his porn career to become a spokesperson for meth harm-reduction efforts. Sadly, he fell back into it and ended up losing his career and, apparently, some measure of freedom. The other issue here, however, is WP:UNDUE. That is, he is notable for his many film and work as a producer and promoter. The article is woefully neglectful in covering what the focus is so laying a big section about his latest chapter should come after the rest is brought up to measure. It would seem we also should devote as much weight to his life before porn as his life after it, whether minimal or a lot. -- Banjeboi 18:40, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, SF Weekly is not the ONLY source and they have now printed a total of 3 articles on Brandon! Eye-witnesses an dmany other reliable sources make the story true! The simple fact of the matter is that Brandon's life is that of a street criminal and junkie, not of a glamourous star, porno or otherwise! 24.43.212.203 (talk) 09:23, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
Wikipedia readers want truth and accuracy - STOP reverting this article to an untruthful, inaccurate and incomplete state! Lipschitz Roz (talk) 17:18, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
The article should be truthful, neutral, and up to date, which is not what I am seeing. I have no problem with Michael's drug addiction being added. But as long as people add inaccurate information along with a biased point of view, I will continue removing the drug references from the current page. I didn't want to remove everything. But there were so many things false that it was hard to sort out what was fact or fiction. And people claiming to have sources are failing to offer proof of validity.--Rainbowrabbit (talk) 17:51, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
NEUTRAL does not mean making this into a FANTASY or Fan site! Honest means when the law is broken numerous times and it is continuously reported in the press that it is reflected in this article! The truth is that Michael Brandon is a Dangerous criminal and an extreme threat to society - not some glamorous F--- Stud! Get over it now! 66.37.169.170 (talk) 18:16, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
I never said the page was a fantasy or a fan site. Only that it should be truthful. And remarks about Michael being a threat to society is the exact reason why I am altering the page. People are taking the negative and basing a majority of the article on it. That's propaganda. And for your information, SF Weekly has written an article over a month ago stating that Michael is in rehab seeking treatment for his addiction. He has been clean since October and there's a strong possibility that he may not have to do any jail time. So he is not a threat to society and I am asking that you get your facts straight before making those kind of remarks. I am also asking that you handle this like an adult without throwing rude sexual insults towards me.--Rainbowrabbit (talk) 18:42, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm with you on this. The subject of Michael's drug addiction should be mentioned. But the article needs be rewritten from scratch. Because the version people are trying to put up is unacceptable in my opinion. Some of it isn't true, it's biased, and takes up 80% of the page. There's more to Michael's life than just drugs. He used to have a wife, he's very skilled at marketing products, he has donated a lot of time in money to various gay and AIDS related organizations. Also, he is not on drugs anymore despite what others are saying. He is currently in rehab seeking treatment and has been clean since the end of October 2008. Not only that, Michael has stated there's a strong possibility that he may not have to do jail time. So the speculation about him serving a life sentence should not be featured.--Rainbowrabbit (talk) 02:55, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
JUST A SUGGESTION but maybe these weird and unflatteing plus unnecessary comments ought to be moved to the archive since whatever was going on has settled. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.91.119 (talk) 18:53, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Updates are required

1) The first paragraph states Brandon is a community activist but there is no elaboration on this in the article 2) San Francisco Weekly is a reliable source and has 3-5 articles on Brandon's recent legal issues dated August 2008 - Feb 2009. These issues are not concurent to the reflection of Brandon's life in this article. 3) Article has been tagged requestion additional sources for over 1 year. Some sources already included are questionable and self-published by the subject. 4) As every individual title is not listed under videography the word 'select' ought to be included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.73.93 (talk) 22:07, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Article is tagged as needing to be updated. Among many sources on the internet + newspapers and magazines include San Francisco Weekly (a reliable source) regarding tragic events of this subject's life c. 2--8-early 2009. See: http://www.sfweekly.com/2008-12-10/news/porn-again/

http://www.sfweekly.com/2008-10-01/news/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-monster/ http://www.sfweekly.com/2008-10-01/news/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-monster/4

Note: the events in the 2 above articles are extremely relevant as they are drug related and up to date. This article is about subject's overcoming drugs but does not mention he fell into them again.

Another very reliable source on Michael Brandon update is The Advocate: http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid68229.asp

This article needs to reflect the true to life facts of the subject. It does not have to be negative in any way but it does need to be truthful. Helena Churchill (talk) 01:42, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

An new interview with Michael Brandon talks about his being under house arrest for over 1 year and probation infedinitely. It is essential that this article be brought up to date and current and reflective of the subject's actual life (not a fantasy as it now stands): http://www.gayporntimes.com/hardnews/2009/11/10/michael-brandon-talks-addiction-recovery/comment-page-1/#comment-15870 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.73.93 (talk) 03:11, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Self-Published or Original Research?

A person's own statements are not OR as they are considered an ex::pert on themselves, I've removed the OR tags. I don't see anything false in the article but agree it could greatly be expanded. IMHO, he started out with a drug problem, got extremely successful in porn which he also used to bolster community activism campaigns then he fell into drugs again, he is now working back into the business. A good article would indeed include all of this. -- Banjeboi 19:06, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
A person's own statements about himself and cited on Wikipedia are maybe not Original Research but they are citations published personally by the subject and are therefore self-published and not allowed on Wikipedia. If this sort of thing were allowed then anyone could sit on WP and write an article about himself. A personal Website inot a reliable source.Matt Latona (talk) 03:40, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually they are, see WP:SELFPUB. -- Banjeboi 04:36, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Well it is agreed that the article needs updating / expansion in any case. Since it is clearly cited in several new reliable sources that Michael Brandon is not affiliated with Raging Stallion any more, it may be a good idea to remove Raging Stallion from the External Link area of this article. Probably the new sources will support the idea of a drug past, rise in porn, fall into drugs and segue into whatever is next (possibly back to porn.) Note: the self-published source on reference # 5 is indeed a website which is unduly self-serving towards the subject and its authenticity is questionable. Matt Latona (talk) 04:49, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
The source itself likely is to be a business website of sorts but statements a person makes about themselves are still acceptable. The only issue remains if we use that source to support exceptional claims, which we should not and do not. I'm again removing the extra-tagging on this article as we don't use clean-up tags as a badge of shame. If you wish to get another opinion you may want to try WP:RSN. -- Banjeboi 15:15, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Update needed!

Michael Brandon (pornographic actor) has been in certain news articles for 3 years now regarding his frequent relapses onto illegal substances, break-up, arrests, court dates, restraining orders against him, eviction from his rented accomodations and more. As it is now, this article does not reflect the true to life person of Michael Brandon (pornographic actor). It should either be updated to reflect currentness and truthfulness or simply be deleted. Any notoriety was short-lived and is several years in the past now so one solution is to reduce this to a brief, pictureless stub. Matt Latona (talk) 00:00, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

This article seems very one-sided and does not cover the real history of the subject. Aligator-woman (talk) 20:41, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Someone accused my now removed statement as being unsourced; note, it is not all negative but for a real article needs some mentioning:

"Monster"

Brandon is known for referring to his penis as "Monster", which I believe is highly relevant to this article about him. Without it we have no context for the name of his studio, Monster Bang. In fact, I'd argue that the Monster monicker is one of the defining characteristics of Michael Brandon's career. This isn't about some arbitrary fact about his penis, it's definitive of his "brand". Thaneross (talk) 01:18, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

I can't see how adding what he refers his penis as or how large it is would be truly significant to the article. Although, the nickname is related to his company's namesake, I can't see how this would be any different to the large breasts and penises of other pornographic actors. SwisterTwister talk 19:33, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
The size of his penis in a career sense is notable, even amongst porn stars. I view this to be similar to John Holmes (who's article includes a reference to his penis). In fact, one studio had an entire campaign comparing him to another well known porn star to determine which was "biggest in the industry". Perhaps my edit could be rephrased to be a little more "encyclopedic", or moved into details about his career... or perhaps simply mention that it's his nickname of sorts. Thaneross (talk) 19:51, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Bay Area

He may be signed with a Bay Area studio, but there is no source here showing he resides in the area. i removed him from the Bay Area Task Force.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 00:37, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Relapses & Marriages

Mr. Phillips-Brandon had many news articles in reliable sources lie the Advocate and San Francisco Frontiers regarding his relapses on drugs. He also was married in 2008 during the brief period of Marriage Equality in California and dumped this husband for an Indian guy named Mohammed in 2010. Both relationships were published in Odessy of LA and Odessy of Honolulu. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.91.151.239 (talk) 19:07, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

This article is extremely incomplete without mentioning the copious amounts of articles in reliable publications i.e.: The Advocate, The Village voice, Frontiers, San Francisco Frontiers, San Francisco Weekly, The Blade, The Gay Times etc. about Mr. Brandon's multiple drug-related arrests as well as his very public relapses including but not limited to a 2008-2011 restraining order against Raging Stallion Studios. Recent photographs demonstrate Brandon using crystal meth within the past 90 days. Dooor-Matt (talk) 18:11, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
