Shouldn't his surname have a capital "D" in the page title? Don't know how to change this, but someone might want to.

Kudos!

edit

I found this a very well-written and balanced article. From one Catholic reader to another, Kudos!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.241.101.104 (talk) 07:17, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

There are plenty more in the Angelus magazine archives:

Notability?

edit

I'm not sure why the notability tag is there. Apart from the inherent notability as a long time chairman of Una Voce International (as well as forming Una Voce America and Una Voce Nigeria) or the amount of third party references, the fact that he got an obituary in the London Times should surely be sufficient evidence of notability, whatever the tagger thinks of his religious views.

JASpencer (talk) 22:52, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lack of third party sourcing establishing any notability. Given that the article on Una Voce itself cites no sources whatsoever, his chairmanship of it does nothing to add to his notability. A prominent obituary is useful but, on its own, does not establish notability. HrafnTalkStalk 03:20, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Issues surrounding traditional Catholicism, the Tridentine Mass, SSPX, etc., have been very much in the news in recent months, which surely enhances Mr Davies's notability as one of the UK's most prominent Catholic traditionalists.Oafc1990 (talk) 22:27, 2 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Abbreviated list of works

edit

Why has the comprehensive list of written works been shortened? This was unnecessary and unhelpful. Now there is no way to distinguish between his major and minor works. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.63.252.252 (talk) 22:06, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

  1. Because it was excessive, in comparison to the main body of the article.
  2. Because the bulk of it was minor works, mere "booklets".

Lack of third-party sources

edit

I note that ten of the eleven references for this article are from sources within traditionalist Catholicism (the sole exception being The Times obituary). HrafnTalkStalk(P) 19:15, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't make them first party. JASpencer (talk) 22:23, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and AD2000 is not a trad publication. As well as the headline being misleading the statement is incorrect. JASpencer (talk) 22:25, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
B. A. Santamaria "founded a magazine through his Thomas More Centre, called A.D. 2000, to argue for traditionalist views." On the "third-party" issue, these sources are from the (small and tight-knit) traditionalist Catholic movement of which Davies was a leading member -- hardly "independent". There is no indication of any substantive notice from mainstream or liberal Catholicism (who would after all be his main opponents), let alone from the world at large (beyond The times obituary). HrafnTalkStalk(P) 05:18, 19 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Some of these references contain a remarkable personal eulogy from Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who became Pope only one year later. Wouldn't this sort of praise make him more notable ? I mean the Ratzinger is a famous Catholic, not just some unknown Cardinal. [1] ADM (talk) 12:38, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
(i) Do you have a reliable source for this "eulogy"? (ii) It would add little notability in terms of WP:GNG (as it adds very little coverage), but might, depending on the prominence of the source that it is published in, be considered to add 'inherent notability'. Whilst Ratzinger is likely to have eulogised a number of prominent Catholics, it is entirely likely that he has also eulogised a number of obscure ones for various reasons (personal relationship, as a favour to a friend, etc, etc). In any case, this article is meant to be a biography, not an obituary, so such eulogies are of very marginal usefulness. HrafnTalkStalk(P) 16:47, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
