Edward or Mike?
editAt JSC everybody calls him Mike, not Edward.137.82.201.190 17:50, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
Sources
editHe is the first member from Generation X to fly in space and is the only "Shuttle Era" US Astronaut to fly in space, but not on the American Space Shuttle. Taken from NASA Bios (www.jsc.nasa.gov/Bios) and doing the math.
Wiggles video info taken from "The Wiggles- Wiggle Around the Clock", (c) 2006, Video Chapter 18 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.197.149.80 (talk) 03:39, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see how this could be included because it is WP:TRIVIA and is conjecture from the NASA source. Also the wiggles thing is pure trivia. -MBK004 03:41, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Not conjecture- a fact. I have done the math. There are people who track these things. Who are you to police opinions?
Wiggles was acting too. Perhaps Fincke wants an acting career. Perhaps it is not trivial that he makes the effort to educate students about the space program. It is not up to you to determine "triviality". no?
Please tell me how you would like to see the citations. Be nice —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.197.149.80 (talk) 03:48, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- Conjecture does not equate to verifiability and your logic does not pale above all else. If the GenX thing is specifically stated in the bio without having to "do the math", then it does belong; but without that, or the space shuttle blurb, then it is conjecture. Also, unless he has said he wants an acting career the appearance is trivial without hope of being integrated into the article per the trivia guidelines. -MBK004 03:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
OK- there is a section on Acting. I didn't put it there. I tried to add another line about acting which _is_ verifiable. Why is the current line (Star Trek) any different than my proposed line? (Wiggles). I fail to see your logic. Please explain.
- You are correct with regards to the acting. If the entry is cited correctly using the following template: WP:CIT, it can stay. -MBK004 04:03, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. I attempted to do it correctly. Please feel free to edit. ; )
OK now please help me with the other two _facts_. 1) He is the first member from Generation X to fly in space 2) and is the only "Shuttle Era" US Astronaut to fly in space, but not on the American Space Shuttle.
I do not have a press release. But from the NASA Astronaout bios page (already referenced) and from Wiki articles, it is simple math to prove each of these statements as a fact.
a brief example-- the Wiki article on Generation X mentions that Gen X starts with people born in 1965 and later. Fincke was born in 1967. No conjecture here at all. Please help me cite this to meet expectations. I have read the Wiki policy on currently alive people's biographies and can see no violations. And certainly this is not hamful? Again thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.197.149.80 (talk) 04:18, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how that could be cited correctly since the guidelines in place mean we cannot cite wikipedia. It needs independent verifiable coverage to be included. Although this could become part of the article, as I've said, it needs to be specifically addressed by an outside source to be included, and I do not believe that NASA will oblige. Perhaps it will come up in an interview in the future. -MBK004 04:22, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I appreciate your help! How about this: Strauss, William & Howe, Neil. Generations: The History of America's Future, 1584 to 2069. Perennial, 1992 (Reprint). ISBN 0-688-11912-3 defines Generation X as being born in 1965 or later and NASA bios proveto Fincke was born in 1967. this is as verifiable as it gets? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.197.149.80 (talk) 04:30, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- The only foreseeable way of this getting into the article that I can see is if it comes up in an article about him which is published or in an interview during a mission. The mission articles are heavily edited along with the articles on the people while they are in space. Other than that, there needs to be a direct linkage between him and the fact that is independently verifiable without checking facts. I appreciate your wanting to try to improve the article, but at this time I don't think that fact can be included. I'm going to bed now (it's late) and won't be online to respond. -MBK004 04:34, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Good night then and thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.197.149.80 (talk) 04:44, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Another interesting fact about Astronaut Fincke. He attended Buhl Planetarium's Astronomy Apprentice program in 1984-85. I know, I'm proud to have been his teacher! --Profgraham —Preceding unsigned comment added by Profgraham (talk • contribs) 16:11, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
