John Prestwich MBE
editI've just corrected the misleading statement that Robin Cavendish was the longest-living polio survivor - he most definitely wasn't as many people survived polio with no ill-effects, or at least without life-threatening disabilities. Robin Cavendish was notable for surviving 36 years on an "Iron Lung". Even this is no record. Michael Prestwich MBE contracted Polio at 17 in 1955 and survived on an iron lung until 27 February 2006; He's listed in the Guinness World Records Book 2006 as "the longest surviving iron-lung patient". I haven't checked recent editions.
In 1971 Michael Prestwich was the first iron lung polio patient to live outside hospital, after marrying his occupational therapist, Maggie. This was made possible by the Lane-Fox Respiratory Unit at St Thomas' Hospital.
There ought to be a page for him, as his life and charity work is just as notable. However, this is for someone else with more time. F J Leonhardt 10:43, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Reviews of Edward I
editQuick note to say that it wouldn't be fair, balanced or reasonable to leave the criticisms of Michael Prestwich's Edward I without also including the praise it received. I will hopefully get to this soon. Jim Killock (talk) 13:03, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
