Did the microchip nickname for ICs come from this company's name?

No - the generic term "microchip" was around long before Microchip Technology was founded in 1989.

So how come the name was up for grabs as a company name as late as 1989? Maybe because it's a completely silly name for a semiconductor company.24.85.131.247 (talk) 05:45, 5 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
