DNS is not the same as NetBIOS
editThis article could address the ways LAN host names are resolved. I think it has something to do with a netbios name server and browse masters and forced elections and stuff.
- Or you could improve our articles relating to NetBIOS and LAN Manager instead. ☺ Uncle G 17:06, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
BIND heritage
editI am sure BIND was ported to Window NT though a sponsorship of a company whose name elude me at the moment. I am not however sure if the current MS DNS code has its origin from this port. Could there be any information that can bridge these two knowns for those who are curious?
nscd
editNot sure where the nscd stuff came from since no citations, but in Linux nscd is not used for hostnames when DNS is used, only if hostnames are coming from NIS, so the information is completely wrong. If I can find a reference, I will modify it. Smallpond 21:23, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
