Versions
editMSD, Like MsInfo, Assistant, regedit, first shipped with Word, and then spread into the operating system. Here is a table of the known versions of MSD, such as I have collected. (Source is the release files for the products named.)
1.00: Appeared in Word for Windows 2.0 (win30 vintage). A beta of this has turned up with the name of INFER.
1.10.36: Appeared in Windows 3.0 Multimedia Extensions.
2.00: Windows 3.10, 3.11, Win-OS/2: Pressing F1 at the help|about dialog gives "No Help Available (so leave me alone)"
2.00a: Windows for Workgroups 3.10
2.01: MS-DOS 6.00, 6.20, 6.21 7.00 beta 1, and OS/2 (2.1 and later) [sometimes have msd.com]
2.10: Windows for Workgroups 3.11
2.11: MS-DOS 6.22
2.12: This version skipped: it appears to cover 3.00 and 3.01
2.13: Windows 95, 95A (help-about says 2.11, but msd /p gives the correct version of 2.13.)
2.14: Windows 98, 98SE, ME
3.00: Early chicago beta version, features (non-functional) 'registry' button
3.01: Later chicago version. Like 2.13, but shows OS Version button.

- At least in Win 98SE you don't need Plus! for MSD, it is not installed with Win 98SE, but it is included on the installation-CD in the folder \tools\oldmsdos. --Qaywsxedc (talk) 20:25, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- In all versions of Windows 9x, it is included in either other\oldmsdos (2.13), or tools\oldmsdos (2.14).
