Actually, www.microsoft.com/expression says they are "consolidating", so that means at this moment there is no plan to replace it with anything else. It is being discontinued for good. If I may say so, no one is missing that piece of product. There are a lot of alternatives, both commercial and free.

Based on the below Update from Microsoft, this software is not available for sale and is free.
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/eng/
Based on the FAQ available on the same page, I don't this this product comes under 'Freemium'.
"The features and functionality are the same between the free download and paid versions. The key difference is that the free versions are not supported, meaning they come as-is and no Microsoft technical support is available (these products are supported via the community). " The above section of microsoft page clearly says that features are same. Only difference is on the product support.
I think this WikiPage needs update based on the above information. Share your views. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rajkumarmpr (talk • contribs) 06:18, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Users who own licensed copies are Expression Encoder Pro have paid for it and are required not to redistribute it in exchange for additional features. So, no, it is not freeware. Discontinuation never changes software licensing terms. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 22:44, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Compare Features Windows Media Encoder vs Expression Encoder

I have a copy of Microsoft's official 1.08.2010 page, which compares the capabilities of Windows Media Encoder and the replacement Expression Encoder. Perhaps someone will want to move this table to articles or maybe it can still help, so I downloaded this page for free download (link available 1 year since last download) --185.52.142.238 (talk) 16:53, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
