Added this tag as it reads like an advert... "Also in the former Butterley goods yard is the Trust's Carriage and Wagon department where our rolling stock is maintained" 90.194.147.110 (talk) 17:50, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

moved to article
An explanation to that may be that the article appears (by a recent edit summary) to be maintained by members of staff of the Midland Railway. I will look into this further, as it may be a serious WP:COI.

Unreferenced...

edit

The article requires references or else it may be deleted. It does not matter who updates it - how do any other users know you are who you say you are? I could say that I was Jimbo Wales, our founder, but that doesn't mean I am...

Further removal of tags will result in consequences.

Quite right, wikipedia articles need to be referenced from reliable sources see Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Attribution. Richerman (talk) 16:58, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

debate?

edit

Don't understand this debate ... if we have Midland railway staff then presumably they know where their information comes from. If no references are supplied then it would appear to prove the lack of a reliable source and authorship. Note the opening sentence of the article is a tautology (ie it says A=A because A is a type of A. It needs an explanation/definition of what the article/list is about. Hope this article grows ... I think it says 'there are some objects contained within A, which itself is contained within B", where B is the Midland Railway Centre. Maybe it needs another article, starting with 'The Midland Railway Centre contains the Midland Railway, Butterley, the National Forklift Truck Museum and the Golden Valley Railway.' Except that it might encourage somebody to write a list of forklift trucks.Ning-ning (talk) 13:45, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Midland Railway Centre website's History section states that the Midland Railway Trust started and expanded the Centre, which does in fact contain the entire MR(B) from Pye Bridge to Ironville, and other attractions including a farm and a country park. So the redirect from MRC to MR(B) should be replaced by an article on the MRC. Ning-ning (talk) 14:53, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

This article should be renamed Midland Railway - Butterley and the two other pages Midland Railway, Butterley and Midland Railway Centre made into redirects. Altyelecy (talk) 1849, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Improving the article

edit

This article certainly needs improvement and expansion. At present it is little more than a list of preserved locomotives and rolling stock. Some historical context would be useful: the history of the line prior to closure, developments leading up to its reopening, and expansion since the early days of the Midland Railway Centre. An indication of published future plans and aspirations would also be helpful. Perhaps looking at other heritage railway articles would be a guide, including Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, a line not far away, which has an article which is far from perfect, but certainly more comprehensive than this one.
