Citations Needed

edit

I have just removed a bunch of rubbish from the Talk page-- mainly my fault, I apologise. Also, I have added many 'Citations Needed' to the article, as I am questioning some of the claims the article gives out. We can't expect this to become a good article, when we keep adding new information, but lack sources! Unconscious 22:05, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you looked at my edits summary for the page, you can see that I mentioned on the Edit summary that the information came directly from Chris via Myspace. Adding all the "citations needed" only serves to make the page look sloppy. If you want to put citations, cite "information directly from Chris" under the references area of the page --Teram10 05:25, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I added a log of my conversations with Chris to the bottom of this talk page. You can look through it and see for yourself what he said. --Teram10 05:37, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Would it be a good idea to try and get the Emo Ranger's blog whitelisted, so we could cite that? I have just submitted an application, awaiting a reply, however. 'Information directly from Chris', I'm afraid isn't a good enough citation. I do believe you have spoken to Chris about it-- but it's not sure enough to put up as factual. Unconscious 13:30, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've taken out some of the citation needed tags, though more remain that may well be taken out later. Some of those were just utterly ridiculous. Some of them asked for citation on what their costumes look like when a picture showing them is at the top of the article! Really, I can understand wanting to be meticulous or precise, but there is such a thing as taking it too far. Prophaniti 19:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

DVD release

edit

Just emailed Chris, here is his reply.

"Hey - on the DVD, we don't know yet - but definately not until the end of the second series (if at all)."

It doesn't sound too hopeful- nor does it seem apparent that CHRIS wishes to create a Emo Rangers DVD... Perhaps you should rephrase the paragraphing a little? It's more of an idea being thrown around, than what they would both like.

Also, the citation for that paragraph leads to a MTV page with a small description about Emo Rangers, and not proof of the actual statement.. Or am I missing something? Unconscious 16:20, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Funky Monkey

edit

Evil Emperoress' wacky humanoid punk monkey. Terrorized a local Chelmsford theme park and fought the Introspective Ranger until he was defeated.

Just a heads up.. There are no local Theme parks. The closest is a good 60 miles away, cheers! Unconscious 21:05, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

the theme park was in central park in chelmsford! it visits serveral times a year! its a travelling fare!

A theme park is a permanent structure- what was in central park, was merely a travelling circus, or funfair. Unconscious 10:00, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • It's a fictional show! In these shows, the main city/town in which it's set always has about fifty libraries, two theme parks, seventeen malls and only one school... lighten up a little! This is a parody of Power Rangers/Super Sentai and if you can't identify that, you must not be the target audience. ReloadPsi 16:55, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Filming locations

edit

"*Chelmsford, High Street" is the same as "*Chelmsford, Moulsham Street", unless you are reffering to the huge pedestrian road in town. Unconscious 10:00, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

chelmsford high street and moulsham high st are different places. - cheers chris
Are you sure? The map has no road name for the 'High Street', I assumed it was the same as Moulsham Street, considering Moulsham Street is the main road of Chelmsford... Wouldn't 'Town Center' be more appropriate? Unconscious 20:30, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
not sure what source ur looking at but google maps, and all our local street maps clearly mark them as different roads. cheers. chris :)
FACTS: The High Street ENDS at the bridge over the river near burger king. After that the road is Moulsham Street, as said by the street sign on the travel agents. Moulsham street then continues OVER PARK ROAD onto the other side. sorted
Ah. I thought so... I was just getting a bit confused there. Unconscious 19:59, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deleted?

edit

This article has been deleted; and I am curious as to why? It is a television program which is filmed in the United Kingdom, and it is a very popular series; google searches will give you thousands of results. Why was the article deleted?

I was just reading through the deletion log, and it appears that it shows no sign of notability... Surely, being on MTV is a call to fame, thus it deserves a space on Wikipedia?

It's no less worthy of being on the Wiki than "Courage The Cowardly Dog", for example, both shows have the roughly the same amount of fans.

Did this page not get a discussion before the delete? Was it not apparent that it is a television series that plays on MTV?

Take it to WP:DRV. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 00:19, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cites for filming locations

edit

I know for a fact where the filming was done-- but I imagine that's not quite good enough... We need to get our hands on some sources in order to prove that that is where the filming was done. Unconscious 14:52, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Categories

edit

Since France Five is included in the categories for Category:Superheroes and Category:Tokusatsu, shouldn't Emo Rangers be categoried there as well? Also, I think they should be included with Category:MTV television series --Teram10 03:02, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 03:10, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Conforming the Article to Wikipedia Standards

edit

I've made several edits to the page in an attempt to give some additional sources, fact check and correct grammar/spelling errors. How close is this article to conformity standards now? --Teram10 12:38, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ditto

edit

I've added plenty of new info, much of it from season 2 and the 2015 special, to make the article conform closer to Wikipedia standards.

Needs more images

edit

I feel that we should put some images on the main article.. I do not know the method as to how, so does someone else want to do it? It'd be a great help. Unconscious 13:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I still cannot put an image on the infobox; someone should really do so.. I reccomend the 'EMO RANGERS' logo. Unconscious 20:21, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I added a poster image, changed the infobox from Film to Television, and I also cleaned up others parts of the article. I also restored some information you deleted and sourced it. --Teram10 14:16, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I also deleted the unsourced article tag. Everything has been sourced now. --Teram10 14:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Which information had I deleted, and I shall explain myself for doing so, I tend not to delete information unless I'm absolutely sure that there isn't a hope in hell that it's correct.
EDIT: Are you reffering to the bit about the emo background? That is incorrect; they used a cheap camcorder as that is all they had, they did not use it specially to give it a 'emo look'. That was merely special effects to poke fun at emo kids even more. Unconscious 23:54, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not only that, but the deletion of the DVD release. Also, I really doubt they used a cheap camcorder to film the show.
1) It was specifically stated on Rangerboard that Chris was borrowing a quality camera from a friend who shot music videos.
2) The camera they used to film the action scenes had a wide lens. Cheap camcorders cannot be outfitted with a wide lens.
3) The film quality of Emo Rangers is far too good for a cheap camcorder to produce. Even though footage can color-corrected in post, the way cheap camcorders store color limits how much touchup can be done.
4) In behind the scenes footage [[1]], the camera they used for filming can be clearly seen. If I had to guess, I'd say it was a Canon GL2 --Teram10 15:36, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

However, I believe the first episode was filmed with a regular digital camera. It was stated by both Nick and Chris on the Emo Rangers myspace that they used a cheap camcorder they borrowed from a friend, and did the special effects on an old computer. I had deleted the DVD release information, as this will not happen. There is some current problems with the company that created the original Power Rangers, meaning they really cannot risk creating a DVD for sale. At least, this was the last I had heard.

I also noticed that the source you have set up for that is outdated- there has since been a handful of problems with copyrights, since then. I shall try and get a direct quotation from Nick or Chris; or find an article relating to it ASAP. Unconscious 16:25, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I doubt there is any problem with copyrights concerning Emo Rangers. It is a parody work, and doesn't actually use any copyrighted material in the filming and production. MTV broadcasts the show and receives money from advertisers who purchase airtime between Emo Rangers. If profiting from the film was a problem, MTV would be facing a lawsuit from Disney already. So would shows like Family Guy, SNL, and Robot Chicken; United States copyright law allows derivative work if this work is used in parody. I also sent a message to the creators asking what specific camera they used, but I would be extremely surprised if they used anything that wasn't a prosumer camera. This may be speculatory, but I really believe the shots are of too high quality for it to have been a cheap camcorder. Even if you color correct footage on a computer, you are very limited by what color sampling rate the footage was filmed at and messing with the colors too much can actually degrade the film quality considerably. Here is a detailed article about the subject Anyway, let's hope the creators can clarify things a'bit more. --Teram10 17:43, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Certainly, I'm only going by what I've read on the Myspace group; I'm pretty certain they're not allowed to sell any work, as it's too close to Power Rangers. I know for a fact they've gotten a few nasty emails from the creators. Unconscious 20:06, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Again, if there was a real legal problem it wouldn't be on MTV, nor would they be able to profit off the sale of Emo Ranger merchandise, which they are. --Teram10 02:31, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I got in touch with Nick Pittom. The camera was prosumer grade, but it did belong to Nick. I'm asking about the DVD release question. I also learned Emo Rangers was featured in two additional newsources-- New York Times and Essex Chronicles. I wonder if there is any way to get a copy of these articles? I suppose I could write to some editor at one of these papers and ask...I'm in the middle of moving right now, but I will probably ask if nobody else finds anything out before I get settled in. --Teram10 03:37, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Official word from Chris Phillips is that a DVD release is something they are considering for the future, but they do not have any detailed plans for what the DVD would contain at this moment. Also, I learned they did use several cameras for filming different scenes (some were cheap cameras, but they also used a Sony HDR-HC1, which is a HDV camera). I'm trying to find out which scenes were shot with which camera and write something about their unique production methods for the show, since I find it interesting and believe other fans would as well. --Teram10 19:25, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd love to hear how Nick and Chris had managed to get themselves out of a potetional lawsuit, could you also research this a bit further? Unconscious 10:02, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

They were never at risk of a lawsuit so I'm not sure what more there is to it. The rumor of a lawsuit was not accurate, and probably just made up by someone on the internet. --Teram10 20:44, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Log of Myspace information from creator Chris Phillips

What follows is a log of my conversations with Mr Chris Phillips via Myspace. This is where a good portion of the information in the article came from.

Thanks for the speedy reply, and all of the info.

I'll see what I can put together for the article. Hopefully when I am finished, the article will be very detailed about your show and meet Wikipedia standards enough to not get speedy deleted again. The admin in charge of tokusatsu related articles is...well, I get the impression he has some kind of vendetta against anything non-Japanese, and he keeps trying to find reasons to delete mention of Emo Rangers from articles. He had been using the argument of "Emo Rangers isn't notable", and I'm trying to remove that defense.

Again, thanks a lot for all the help. I really appreciate it.

dominic sinacola is a sound designer based in southampton in the uk. i met him at uni.

we hooked up over the web, and we send the sound files to each other over FTP or instant messenger.

we record the voices at mike curtis studios. he is a member of the band fei comodo. we then send the voices to dom, who adds the sound fx for fights and robots etc, mixes down the rock soundtrack, and then adds incidental scoring to stuff like the evil empress lair :D

cheers

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the info. I'll see what I can put together for a "production notes" piece for the article. I was wondering though, what kind of sound recording setup did you have for additional voice recording? The article mentions that Dominic Sinacola handled the sound design, but could you elaborate more on what his role involved?

Again, thanks so much for the all the information.

im not entirely sure which cameras we used for which scenes. i can remember that most of the teen stuff is shot on a sony palmcorder or a sony vx2000.

the rest of the stuff has so many fx and stuff put over it, that it looks a lot better from the lighting and special fx rather than the camera.

you can basically get great results on any camera, and once the videos are put onto youtube you would not be able to tell the difference at all.

so anyone saying "this looks amazing it must be shot on a great camera" is missing the point since most of it is computer generated, or we put loads of lens flares and grading over it to make it look better :)

to clear things up we've used a bunch of camcorders to shoot parts of the show. regular 1 CCD $300 cameras.

D

we also borrowed a VX2000 from a charity and used nicks one, which is a camcorder - calling it prosumer is about right i guess, but its a palm held camera that shoots in HD and costs less than a grand.

hey

on the disscussion board for the emo rangers wiki it says we've had nasty emails from the power rangers creators.

this is absolute nonsense. we've never had any contact with anyone from power rangers - except a few personal messages from people who have worked on the show at some stage or been actors in it. nevertheless these previous contacts have had nothing to do with copyright etc.

cheers

Hey Chris, thanks for replying so quickly. I've added the information you provided to the article, and I'll check through your myspace blog to find those media sources.

I do have a couple more questions,

1)You have yourself listed as providing misc voice talent. Did you voice Captain Crusher and Funky monkey?

2) It has been pointed out by one Wiki user that there is no amusement parks in Chelmsford. Where was the "funky monkey rampage" scene filmed at? Actually, if you could provide information about all the filming locations, that would be great. So far we have Moulsham Street, Central Park and Oaklands Park.

3) What is the status of a DVD release of the show? One Wiki user, and some fans, have suggested you can't release a DVD because it would violate the Power Rangers copyright, though I doubt there is an issue since MTV broadcasts the show already (and because Emo Rangers is a parody). But I thought I would ask and get the official answer on if a DVD release is still planned.

Thanks for all the help!

Hello Mr. Chris Phillips,

I'm trying to improve the wikipedia article on Emo Rangers. It's been deleted several times in the past because a lot of the information hasn't been cited by a "reliable source", so I've been trying to bring the article up to Wikipedia standards. I sent a message to your Emo Rangers space account with some questions about the show, and Nick responded. He suggested that I ask you some of the questions, and I'd really appreciate if you could fill in some of the gaps for me,

1) What is the name of all the actors/actresses in the show?

2) When specifically did you receive the contract with MTV UK?

3) I understand Emo Rangers has been featured in a variety of media, including the New Yorks Times and Essex Chronicle. You wouldn't happen to remember the year/month/issue of those articles would you, or possibly have a copy on hand?

Thanks for your time, and keep up the good work on the show. I really have enjoyed it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Teram10 (talkcontribs) 05:36, 9 May 2007 (UTC).Reply

Now, if we could just get this information onto a notable website, then we would be able to source it. I'm not sure about Wikipedia's rules for citing sources, but if nothing has publically been annouced, then it is considered uncited. I shall ask Nick to verify all of this on the Emo Rangers fansite. Unconscious 13:36, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

You can ask them to add the information to their blog or something, but really, the information came directly from them via MySpace. Adding a bunch of "citations needed" and "this page needs a complete re-write" is only liable to get this page another request for deletion, in addition to making it look sloppy. --Teram10 09:29, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Their blogs are on myspace, which is a blacklisted URL. Nick has agreed to post up verifying most of these uncited claims on emorangerz.com. What would be the ideal way to sucessfully cite all of the questionable material? Multiples citations to the same page? Or just have one, and shove it somewhere appropriate? I added the "this article or section may need a complete re-write" as that's what the "filming locations" needs. It was only something I whipped up quick as a basis for further development, and there has been none. So I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to shove up an alert saying "rewrite". Cheers Unconscious 11:09, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think every single piece of information on the page needs a citation mark next to it but if you want to go ahead. --Teram10 05:21, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

It wouldn't be a bad idea to cite everything. If we want to have any hope of it being up to Wiki's standards (or beyond) we ought to cite as much as we can. Leave the citations up to me, however, Nick should be posting a thread up soon. Unconscious 13:16, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
