Requested move

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the debate was move, since the Wrestling WP NC supports this as well. —Nightstallion (?) 12:09, 20 February 2006 (UTC) Mike Alfonso → Mike Awesome – This is the ring name used consistently by Alfonso since 1996. "Mike Alfonso" has 670 google hits, "Mike Awesome" has 88,500. McPhail 19:39, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Add *Support or *Oppose followed by an optional one-sentence explanation, then sign your vote with ~~~~
  • Strongly Oppose: The convention seems to be that stage names redirect to real names. How else can one track changes in name? For example, it is stated that the reason for the move is because Mike Awesome has been Mike Alfonso's stage name since 1996, but there are five or six other former names listed. What if he changes his name again? MSJapan 22:39, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support: Mike Awesome is the ring name that he is known under in the western world, which is the target of the English wikipedia. He is known as The Gladiator in Japan, but that article name should not be used in this wikipedia. ↪Lakes (Talk) 19:58, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not entirely sure how the above result was "move" when there were only 2 votes, one oppose and one support. I've made it known on several occasions that I support using real names in place of stage names for the main article space, had I known about this vote I would have chimed in. In the future, such polls should be advertised on Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling in order for more people to be aware and chime in with their own reasoning. --Naha|(talk) 19:32, 2 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vitalstatistics

edit

Are we sure he is 6'6". I thought he was 6'4"?(Halbared 07:28, 2 June 2006 (UTC))Reply

He's 6'6". Tony Schiavone said so at Spring Stampede and/or Slamboree of 2000.

Right, because wrestling announcers NEVER exaggerate a wrestler's statistics. (see Andre The Giant). Leaving stat alone till something more substantial than "so-and-so daid so" is cited.24.187.134.57 01:47, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm 99% sure he's a legit 6'6". A-Train was 6'6", and they appeared to be the same height. Taotd 05:16, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

You can usually subtract 2" from any wrestler's height and 20 lbs. from his weight.

if I remember rightly, Lance Storm commented on his website that WWE had actually reduced Christian Cage's weight on their official bios. Unsure why. Suriel1981 12:56, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article lists "billed height" as per standards. His billed height was 6'6", that's what needs to be on the article. Suriel1981 12:58, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Even NBA Basketball players exaggerate their heights too, so it's nothing new. I'd day most people in general add an inch or two to their height, even the BMI chart allows 1 inch for shoe heels.

Relationship

edit

--- As a result of Awesome's aunt (his father's sister) marrying Hulk Hogan's brother, Awesome and Horace Hogan were cousins, however Awesome and Hulk were not related. ---

I think that someone with geneology knowledge needs to look into this. If Mike's aunt married Hulk Hogan's brother, that in fact, does make them related. A commonly used, but incorrect, description would be uncle-in-law. Consider: Mike's aunt marries Hogan's brother, making Hogan's brother Mike's uncle. Then, that makes Hogan Mike's uncle by marriage. If your aunt marries someone, his brother is your uncle by marriage. 12.75.232.213

Suicide Dive

edit

Anyone else kinda find it odd that the article talks about him hanging himself and then just a lines down there is a picture that talks about him performing a suicide dive? It's almost like putting a picture of him choking someone on the ropes right there or he getting choked by the ropes. It's just unfortunate placing of the image.
