DOB
editThe source we currently have says "born in 1968" then later "born 1 April 1969". That sounds like double speak to me. It was written by 2 authors, who apparently did not check each other's copy. Previously we had 2 April 1968, so this is already something of a moveable feast. We need a really reliable source to fix this now. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 00:18, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- Completely agree Jack. I have been trying to track down a definitive source, but found the inconsistencies you listed. The "1 April 1969" reference is the only source that lists day, month and year but I suspect the year should be 1968 as that is more often quoted. Looks like we are the April Fools! WWGB (talk) 00:24, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- This really shouldn't be too much of a mystery. He was a born in Melbourne, where such information is very well recorded and maintained. Are birth notices a possibility? But it also highlights the fact that every time I've tried to look for stuff like this about politicians it's turned out to be quite hard to find. They don't seem to want us to know how old they are. HiLo48 (talk) 00:31, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- It's more just that the websites are lazy about listing them. The Victorian, Tasmanian and Queensland parliamentary websites routinely list birth dates and the vast majority of MPs include them; it's the rest of the states letting us down (and NSW does include them, but only once the person in question retires, for some reason). It's worth checking the Who's Who - I don't have access anymore but it might be in there. Frickeg (talk) 00:43, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- As for the 2 April 1968 version we had earlier, I checked out the sources for that date but couldn't find anything more specific than "1968", so I really don't know who's making up what here. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 03:31, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- I've got access to Who's Who in Australia—Baird is listed but with no birth date. --Canley (talk) 05:23, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- This tweet from Sally Loane wishes him a happy birthday, it's dated 31 March, but says "hell of a date for a birthday" so could be referring to 1 April. However, Mark Coure wishes him a happy birthday here... on 3 January. So that's no help! --Canley (talk) 05:31, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- He tweeted last year here that his birthday is in April. Melcous (talk) 10:07, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm. 3 January is 3/1, or in American-speak 1/3, which is the day before 4 Jan = 4/1 or 1/4. So, those could both have 1 April in mind, albeit the latter guy confused the reading of the code. They're not inconsistent with a 1 April birthdate, put it that way. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 06:30, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- Let's ask "him". HiLo48 (talk) 06:36, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- Every article I've seen bar that one with the inconsistencies says 1968, a number say he is 46 and this one says he turned 46 "last week." April 1968 seems pretty clear? Melcous (talk) 10:07, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- For the record, this matter was resolved. The source being "The King's School register 1831–1999" (3rd ed.)

Should this article be WP:PRIMARYTOPIC?
editShould this article be WP:PRIMARYTOPIC? Stats.grok.se shows this Mike Baird easily has more article views than the other 3 combined. Timeshift (talk) 04:49, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- He only needs to compete with the drummer, since the other two are both Michaels rather than Mikes. I'd say he easily outdoes the drummer for PRIMARYTOPIC, and suggest a move request be started. Frickeg (talk) 06:05, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- Can someone familiar with a move request perform it, please? :) Timeshift (talk) 02:36, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: page moved. Armbrust The Homunculus 15:54, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
Mike Baird (politician) → Mike Baird – Clearly the primary topic for the diminutive form of the name, as opposed to Mike Baird (musician). Significant politician and premier. Stats.grok.se Use of this tool indicates there may even be an argument for him being the primary topic for "Michael Baird" too going by page views, but it's probably better to keep the disambiguation on that one for now. Frickeg (talk) 02:51, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support at least per newspapers. But not for Michael Baird. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:48, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose – we have a dab page for the various Mike and Michael Bairds. That's as it should be. Dicklyon (talk) 04:35, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- So you disagree with WP:PRIMARYTOPIC? Timeshift (talk) 07:17, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support - this Mike Baird, Premier of New South Wales, the most populous state in Australia, is clearly WP:PRIMARYTOPIC with far more views than the rest combined. Timeshift (talk) 07:17, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support - agree it seems pretty clear that this should be the primary topics for Mike Baird, but doesn't seem necessary for Michael Baird. Melcous (talk) 08:41, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support on the same basis as Melcous and In ictu oculi. The Drover's Wife (talk) 03:57, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support for all reasons given so far. AlanS (talk) 09:55, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support for reasons given by others. The Tepes (talk) 10:34, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support certainly exceptionally notable as discussed above and easily the most famous Mike Baird. Screech1616 (talk) 13:19, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

After one support and one oppose appeared, I was a little worried the motion may not carry. May I say thanks to all for what is a no-brainer move. Timeshift (talk) 01:32, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
Orphaned references in Mike Baird
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Mike Baird's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Supporting dementia is part of the subject's life and career
edit@Abacrombi: I noticed your deletion and, having given it some thought, reverted. Of course material about the subject's immediate family is pertinent to the story of that person. Moreover, caring for people with dementia is part of this person's life, at the family level and, it seems, at the career level too. Please make your case to have it removed here. The Little Platoon (talk) 00:21, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
@The Little Platoom: Howdy, I do not think it relevant because it is not stated as an actual reason for him taking the job (he actually said somewhat of the opposite). He said that he has a history with aged care facilities, "He said all families had been touched by aged care, including his own." but that "despite his personal experience, Mr Baird says he had not thought about a role like this." I therefore say that it is not relevant to this section, however would make a perfectly fine addition to a personal life section. Cheers! [1] Abacrombi (talk) 10:48, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
