@Dagrabbit: I'm not sure about the policy on this (in principle I agree with your edits) but note that the publication in question uses Ryûichi Abé (see here) and his page on Wikipedia uses no diacritics (Ryuichi Abe). The orthography (when it is used) there has no macron over the "e" in Abe, too -- only over the "u". Maybe a native Japanese speaker could inform us whether the "e" is long? wound theology 14:13, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I wasn't too sure of the long ē- one of the links had his name listed as abé, which made me think that. His page on wikipedia uses ū but not ē, so perhaps I'm wrong about the ē. Dagrabbit (talk) 17:15, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
