Substitute bass players
editIf the article is going to include Marshall Hawkins as a Quintet member, it should include the other bassists that substituted for Carter at times, such as Richard Davis, Buster Williams, Gary Peacock, Miroslav Vitous ...Jmeltzer (talk) 18:06, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed, he shouldn't be listed as a member of the quintet, perhaps mentioned with subs.BassHistory (talk) 04:45, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Two articles, not one
editThis article is 1) way too short and 2) very misleading in implying that the two great quintets were similar and were, in effect, one continuous ensemble. Literally the only similarities between the two were the presence of Davis himself and the fact that there were five players in each. In fact, they were two radically different combos: day and night. Therefore, there should be two separate articles: The First Great Quintet and The Second Great Quintet, and both should go into considerably greater detail than is the case here. In particular, the Second Quintet has been enormously influential and that influence should be acknowledged and described in the new individual article.
