References for Citizen 13660 and other material about Okubo's influence.
editThe section on Citizen 13660 lacks references. I don't have the time this week, but a possible source of material in case an editor wants to work on adding some more academic context to this article is Amerasia Journal, Vol 30 #2 (2004). The whole issue is devoted to Miné Okubo. The TOC and pdfs for all the articles: [1]. That issue also contains some of Okubo's own writings. The edited volume Miné Okubo: Following Her Own Road also seems like it could be a rich source of material. It is in the bibliography at the end of this article, but very little of the article is informed by it. M.boli (talk) 12:18, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
Wiki Education assignment: American Studies 101
editThis article was the subject of a Wiki Education Foundation-supported course assignment, between 21 August 2023 and 8 December 2023. Further details are available on the course page. Student editor(s): Bloobpaint, Sleepless oneironaut (article contribs).

- I fixed the caption on the recently-added image. @Bloobpaint: you might want to fix it in Wikimedia, where you just uploaded it. Also: did you get permission? Are you claiming fair use? -- M.boli (talk) 22:30, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- A suggstion for students interested in the topic and possibly improving the Wikipedia page. Check the special issue of Amerasia Journal covering Miné Okubo that I mentioned earlier on this talk page. That link is broken, however it is available for free from the Internet Archive where you can check it out as an e-book for short periods.
- Link for Archive.org check-out-able copy: https://archive.org/details/sim_amerasia-journal_2004_30_2/mode/2up
- Link for table of contents of the special issue (at the publisher's web page). Use this for searching for articles from the school library (or ordering them by interlibarary loan): https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/ramj20/30/2. (The publisher quotes insane prices for individual people to view the articles. Don't do it! Use your library.)
- I notice that Amerasia Journal published other articles on Okubo in other issues. Particularly interesting might be “Comical in Spite of the Misery”: Humor in Miné Okubo's Citizen 13660.
- Anyway, this should be an engaging and fun assignment. (And I'm sorry to see your image was deleted.) -- M.boli (talk) 22:49, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Quotes Section
editI just removed the "Quotes" section of the article, as it appeared unnecessary and strangely disconnected from the rest of the article. Perhaps the quotes could be distributed amongst the text elsewhere, but for the time being they are gone. However, one of the quotes included a reference to Note "d" which itself cited reference "27" neither of which have been removed (not for lack of trying). If anyone knows how that could be done or perhaps another way to include the quotes from the section in the article I would greatly appreciate it!
