Estates

edit

The article refers to estates, such as the mineral estate and the surface estate; however, I think that an estate is the duration of ownership of the owner. Thus, "surface estate" is a misnomer or is at least incorrectly used to reference one's estate (life estate or estate in fee-simple) in the surface of the land. Thoughts?

without at least some mention of which county/legal jurisdiction this refers to the article is fairly useless! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.171.178.157 (talk) 10:00, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wikepedia is a global phenomenon, and without any mention of jurisdiction this content is, quite frankly, useless. Different countries, and within countries different regional jurisdictions, will have entirely different laws on the subject. Without any indication of where this content applies it can't be of any use. Gulliverian (talk) 15:52, 14 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

This article only mentions Oil & Gas and those things particular to Oil & Gas. It needs information on Coal, etc..

The "Poem" section includes only an unsourced poem (for which I can find no probable source, as a cursory search for the text only returns hits for this page), and doesn't seem to add anything of value to the article. Should the section be removed? bolinich 1/17/2019 00:10 (UTC)

I made edits as a class assignment to this page. Edits to the introduction, Mineral Estate, Types of Mineral Estate, and Severed/Split Estate headings were made and references were added. CED — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daltonce1 (talkcontribs) 01:51, 25 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Buying, selling, and recording mineral rights.

edit

How do you purchase or otherwise obtain mineral rights? Who can sell or transfer mineral rights? How are mineral rights recorded (e.g. with a deed)? How is the value of the (unextracted) minerals accounted for in mineral rights? How are externalized costs (e.g. the inevitable pollution) accounted for in mineral rights? Thanks! --Lbeaumont (talk) 10:47, 27 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
