Could it be possible to suggest that MiniGLX is in fact analogous to what IrisGL was in it's inception (it provided GUI calls and provisions for GL-framebuffer linking)? Also, if you see this video ( http://www.archive.org/details/PCVideo ) the use of GPGPU and MiniGLX (as suggested in the last paragraph) would be analogous to the SGI IRIS 1000 (the very first SGI machine) which served simply as a Graphics Terminal to the mainframes of the time (which is not at all unlike what the Quadro Plex S4 attempts in hardware fashion).
