Redirected Pages

I think it's a good idea to create this page to provide a complete list of minigames in Final Fantasy series. However, I am not too sure if we should redirect individual pages to this page (therefore, losing the original pages) as the original pages have more information most of the time. And it would not be appropriate for this page to contain detailed information for all minigames. I would appreciate that if the discussion is carried out before ALL links are redirected --Cyktsui 07:37, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

The information that is in those pages that it not in this page is mostly step by step instructions on how to play the games, as well as strategies for winning. Tetra Master's article was longer than the gamefaqs (quite complete) faq about the game. I only wish I was kidding. Basically, the original pages needed cutting down and cleaning up, and since that's what we did when we merged them together, what use do the original pages serve? --PresN 07:47, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

• Wikipedia can't be a game guide, so we aren't allowed to provide such detailed instructions of games, unless they are extremely notable (and even that is debated). Trust me, we all came to this site wanting to explain every detail of our favorite topics, but when we realized Wikipedia's true purpose, we began to look at all available resources and meanings for those resources. Wikibooks would be great for detailed, step-by-step instructions for every minigame; Wikipedia is not meant for that purpose. — Deckiller 03:40, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

• • Deckiller: I agree with you to a degree, Wikipedia should not have step for step instructions or go into extreme detail, but I don't think that that is the purpose of this article. This is more of a summary, a high-level overview of the various minigames that have appeared in the series.

Still to do

The lead needs to be, well...written, refs need to be found, and the prose needs a lot of work, as it an amalgamation of whatever good/bad writing was in the original articles and my own clumsy attempts. I'll start on that tomorrow. --PresN 07:47, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Chocobo section

This article needs a section on Chocobos. There was breeding in Final Fantasy VII and Chocobo's Hot & Cold in Final Fantasy IX - these will be the main focus, but their use in other games should be mentioned. There should be a small introduction onto what Chocobos actually are (birds), and their main use (travel). Try to iterate on the development and real-world impact. --TheEmulatorGuy 01:49, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't know if FF7's chocobo raising counted as a "minigame" per se, but maybe the chocobo racing, so yeah. And Chocobo Hot & Cold could use a section, it's just not here because it didn't have an article to be merged. --PresN 05:56, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Minigames of Final Fantasy 7

FFVII is quite under-represented here. There are a ton of mini-games in FF7, ranging from the small and fun(Skiing, submarine minefield) to the ongoing important Fort Condor(Best candidate). Why is this considered a fictional game?

Well, if you take the cards game, or the arcades, or the blitzball, they are all games being played in a game; hence the term "fictional games"--SidiLemine 12:33, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Failed Good Article nomination

I have reviewed this article, and feel that it does not meet the criteria for good articles on the following grounds:

1. The bulk of the material comes from an in-universe perspective, in violation of WP:FICT. Describing the mechanics of various minigames does not establish a larger context.
2. The larger context is actively missing from this article - there are only a few sentences devoted to anything that takes place outside of the fictional worlds of Final Fantasy. Most egregious is the reception section, which notes reviews from only one website.
3. The material is functionally a list, making it unsuitable for GA-status. There is no larger overview of the role minigames play in Final Fantasy games, their imitators, what they contribute to the basic feel of the games, etc. This is really a sequence of mini-articles on a couple of minigames.
4. The lead is poorly written, spending too much time explaining Final Fantasy and not enough anticipating the rest of the article.

Right at the bottom of the article there's a link to a flash-based Triple Triad site. a very obscure one, from the sounds of things. On that site, there's a chat interface that logs all chat that goes through it to display when anyone logs on to it. the last month or so of entries are people wanting to know 'is there anyone on? where is everyone?'. perhaps this is not the best external site to link to, what with there apparenlty rarely being enough players available. how about changing it to http://ttadvance.ca ? this site actually gets traffic, and is the first page to appear when searching for "triple triad" on google (appears above this wikipedia article, in fact!) 62.56.78.108 (talk) 19:09, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Fair-use images

This article has far, far too many fair use images...many more than are needed to illustrate the stuff that's being described, and many more than are justified by the fair use policy (for example, File:Blitzball.jpg doesn't even show the game, it's just freeze-frame of a cutscene). Merger proposal

I propose that this page be merged into Gameplay of Final Fantasy. My reasoning is that this page is nothing but a bunch of gameplay summaries of the various minigames. No development, little reception, no context in the real world, just "here's how this game works". Gameplay of Final Fantasy covers it all in 5-6 paragraphs, and I think that's more than enough- probably too much.

Dream Focus reverted the initial merge saying that this was where articles are merged to. My responses are 1) Yes, I know, I wrote this article to begin with by merging in a bunch of them and 2) So? The proposed merge just transfers the target to Gameplay of Final Fantasy. I don't think that we as a project are in the business of setting up honeypot articles so that people don't create their own articles.

The article has been tagged as needing cleanup for three years. A year and a half ago, the Square Enix project decided to merge it- it was never done, and that's probably too long ago to count as consensus, I suppose. I don't think the article can be fixed- and I know for certain that no one is going to fix it even if it could be. What does everyone else think? --PresN 23:22, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

What a small number of people discussed elsewhere, without involving anyone here of this discussion, is irrelevant. Also, a very large number of articles have pointless tags for cleanup and whatnot that are around for years, most people not taking them seriously. Dream Focus 23:35, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

• Oppose The various mini-games do get coverage, they not mentioning them if they weren't notable. This also shows a key aspect of these bestselling notable and influential games, something people can learn from. I believe we had this discussion elsewhere for keeping the article sometime ago. • Support, we don't need to explain how to play each minigame in such detail. Merge into Gameplay with an overview paragraph about "Many FF games feature minigames etc" and perhaps add a brief explanation of the minigames to the main game articles as well. • Support - Dream Focus's objections would be mollified in a merger as opposed to a redirect, as long as there is a sufficiently detailed minigame section of the gameplay article. Alright, it's been a week, and everyone else is in agreement. I added an intro paragraph to the minigames section of the gameplay article; other than that it already includes all of the summary details and reception for each of the game; it's just leaving out the gameplay details/gameguide content. I think it's too long still, but that article is such a mess that I'm not going to slash out the information just for the sake of doing so. --PresN 03:22, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
