Building (new Central)
editSince the building is now complete and functioning, shouldn't an up-to-date photograph or two be added here? Michael Hardy 23:03, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
God, what an awful building. Almost as bad as the one in Seattle. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spike2021 (talk • contribs)
- Have you ever actually been there? It's a beautiful building! It's absolutely not over-the-top like the Seattle one [1]. —Sesel 03:08, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- No, it's not that beautiful for much of the year, though. The wing-like roof that projects over the plaza is badly-designed for the location -- it collects large chunks of ice, which then fall 5 stories onto the plaza, quite dangerous to patrons entering the library, or waiting at the bus stop in front. So during winter, the plaza is marred by bright yellow crime-scene tape blocking off much of the plaza. (And winter in Minnesota lasts a good part of the year!) Another example of an architect building something which looks 'pretty' in his drawings, but which doesn't work well for the people who have to use it. T-bonham (talk) 03:17, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
history of the planetarium
editThe article says:
- Until the 2002 closure and demolition of the old central library, the Minneapolis Planetarium found its home there, possessing a projector machine literally older than the space age itself (delivered and installed originally in 1954, three years before the launch of Sputnik I).
But I seem to recall that the biulding demolished in 2002 was built in 1961. Where was the projector installed? Michael Hardy 02:32, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

post-merger merge articles
editWe should probably be getting ready to merge articles when the MPL is merged. There's an article for HPL which is pretty skimpy. when do we merge articles--Natcase 09:59, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Don't merge. The MPLS deserves an obituary. Or at least the beginnings of one.68.178.50.46 (talk) 00:23, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
Merger proposal
editThe article Outlook Twenty Ten was recently created. I don't think it's notable enough for an independent article, but it may merit a mention here. —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 20:17, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Adamson v. Minneapolis Public Library
editI just added a section of the same name on the main page. Media stories on this matter may be found at http://web.mac.com/safelibraries/Adamson/MediaReports.html and are being linked here in the Talk page to make fact checking from primary sources easier for anyone interested.
Also, I created a redirect page from Adamson v. Minneapolis Public Library to this Minneapolis Public Library main page. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling (talk) 02:09, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
History
editHi. Article seems to be missing history. I added a photo of the first public library building and added T. B. Walker to the lead. The board disagreed with him, but he prevailed in founding a free public library. -SusanLesch (talk) 18:45, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Page Glosses Over Destruction of Minneapolis Library System (aka " Is Being Minnesota Nice.")
editThe article does not in any way address the "fiasco" (Minneapolis Star-Tribune) that the building of the new Central Library led to. After the qualifications for the post of director were altered to allow the appointment of a non-librarian, an outgoing Jesse Ventura administration member was chosen in 2003 as head of the Minneapolis Library System over the former director of the American Library Association. Expected State funding was cut by the incoming Governor Pawlenty and voter-approved bond sales were held off as wrangling erupted over whether to finish the new libraryor scrap it and stay in the temporary leased space, and whether and which branch city libraries should be closed. The decision to go ahead with the new showpiece library ultimately led to the collapse of the city library system, huge layoffs, and finally a difficult merger with the County library system. I will provide specific sources as time permits.68.178.50.46 (talk) 00:19, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
