Trivia
editHow come the "Trivia" section is actually just a clearinghouse in which to list people who are supposedly July's best friends? That seems pretty fishy to me, and not encyclopedia-worthy. Chris77xyz 06:39, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Chris, It doesn't seem "fishy" to me in any sense (I'm not sure what you mean by that), it seems more like "trivia" because it's mentioning she's worked with sleater-kinney and Johanna Fateman, an interesting fact some people might want to know, which seems encyclopedia-worthy enough for me. I mean, I didn't know Johanna and her were friends in high school, and I find it interesting. Considering it's cited I don't see what's fishy.
Tao Lin blurb
editSpeaking of fishy, what's with the link to a blurb she gave on Tao Lin? It links to the writer's personal blog. 207.119.20.61 17:33, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Someone put it back up. Removing. Any qualms? 70.116.16.225 19:31, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Gay/bisexual?
editIs July gay or bisexual? It's in the LGBTQ Wikiproject and listed under several gay categories, but isn't mentioned in the article. I don't know, is it not wikipedia standard to mention something like that in the article? It seems like something worthy of inclusion.
- Yes - it's properly mentioned and sourced in the very first paragraph. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 03:51, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just added that recently. There was previously no mention of it in the article. The comment from the anon above was left quite a while ago, methinks. –King Bee (τ • γ) 16:16, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- There is no mention now. I'm removing the categories for the sake of privacy (and BLP policy, and to avoid overcategorisation, etc.). Feketekave (talk) 09:22, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
Could we discuss the links?
editWhile I haven't gone through all the links themselves, I'm not sure what the problems are now. The links to her publications should probably be removed, and the number of interviews trimmed back. Otherwise, what're the problems? --Ronz (talk) 21:49, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- The problems? Links to countless interviews, places to read all about every little everything and so forth are all promotional. We're not Open Directory or whatever else kind of site might find that appropriate. There's not much to discuss, as it's really straightforward. [WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not a directory]], WP:EL and WP:SPAM are all pretty clear on this. DreamGuy (talk) 00:10, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the time to discuss the issues.
- From my experience with articles about individuals, a few written interviews are almost always useful as external links. It seems like we just need to choose a few. --Ronz (talk) 00:39, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- The least tendentious way of keeping a few of these links around would probably be to cite them as references. If the interviews are indeed worth linking to, they'll almost certainly contain bits of information which would enrich the article. --Fullobeans (talk) 02:35, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Is this a film? "Things We Don’t Understand and Definitely Are Not Going to Talk About"
editIn Filmography, "Things We Don’t Understand and Definitely Are Not Going to Talk About" is listed as a short film in need of a citation. When I searched for the citation, I discovered that the piece was not, in fact, a short film, but is actually a performance piece that was later turned into a film. The NY Times discusses it as a performance piece, and July's own website lists it as a performance. This diff also indicates that the piece was a performance. reorganize
editPlease restructure the film subsection to conform to our regular structure of bio articles. Each film does not get its own subheader (with use of the main template), instead use flowing prose to describe the article subject's career in one or more paragraphs; individual movies are of course wikilinked. Using main is inappropriate here; discussing a movie from the POV of one actor's involvement is not like discussing a specialized aspect of a subject with more general overview (or a "main" article) elsewhere.

Bibliography
editI have commenced a tidy-up of the Bibliography section:
- Cite templates will be used where possible.
- Tables may be used to organise short stories, poems and/or book reviews.
- I prefer capitalization and punctuation to follow the standard cataloguing rules in AACR2 and RDA, rather than "title case".
- Links (either direct or indirect) to potentially unreliable or incomplete digitised copies and to booksellers may be removed.
This is a work in progress; feel free to continue. Sunwin1960 (talk) 11:07, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
