I think that Madhubani painting is the correct name of this style of painintg thogh it is practiced in Mithila region. Google returns much more results for Madhubani painting. Moreover, a postal stamp issued by Government of India has captioned the stamp as Madhubani-Mithila paiting [1]. As such, the world Madhubani should be sued. Further, Encyclopedia returns nil result for Mithila Paiting [2] whereas several results are found for Madhubani painting [3]. I think that Mithila painting is the wrong name for this page and the page should be reverted to its original palce - Madhubani painting. Kindly comments. Thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 19:53, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're absolutely right. The original move was performed without discussion, perhaps by someone not acquainted with the term. I have moved it to Madhubani art, another term, because the page was impossible to find when I searched for that. --Ranveig 12:23, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I suspect the usage of the term "Madhubani Painting" to refer to "Mithila Painting/Art". Is it better to rename the term just because some search engines do not return any result under the search string "Mithila Painting", or the term should be used to reveal what is truth. I think this may be against the principles of Wikipedia itself. "Ease" should not be prioritized against truth, and in this case, this may even point to biasing and favouring Madhubani for the whole art itself. There is no doubt that it is practised at an immense level in Madhubani, but still the city alone is not responsible for the art. I would like to suggest the admins to change the name of this article of "Mithila Art" which in my views will be more suitable. --Aks.abhishek (talk) 03:10, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is a serious issues. Madhubani are names of places in different Mithila areas of Nepal and Bihar, that does not make Madhubani of India, the origin place of Madhubani Mithila Painting. What if Madhubani in Janakpur (capital of ancient capital city of Mithila) claims the title of origin. Besides, there are no any single references that claims origin place of Madhubani Painting. Its origin is never found only it is known that king janak of Janakpur in nepal order to paint it for the first time, that does not even make its origin from Nepal. Please remove sections claiming its origin which has No sources. Sikkimese (talk) 07:23, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

No, it’s referred to as Madhubani Art because it originates from Madhubani district in Bihar, India. That’s what all the reliable sources say. Provide a source to contradict it if you want it changed.
And Janakpur was only discovered in the 17th century. It is highly unlikely to the be the capital of the Videha kingdom. There are no archaeological sites at Janakpur. Ixudi (talk) 12:56, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ixudi : Which reliable sources are you talking about? Can you pin some of the links talking about its origin?
Totally nonsense ! Mithila art was passed on from generations to genrations and there are no exact origin place proved although some claim Madhubani of Janakpurdham, Nepal while some claim Madhubani of Bihar, India. That retrospective line claiming origin of Madhubani painting should be completly cleaned off.
@Biplab Anand Brother, plaese take a charge of this matter that are affecting sentiments of Nepalis and Bihari brothers in the Mithila region of both sides. Sikkimese (talk) 18:03, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please maintain an appropriate tone when engaging in discussions. And please stop canvassing.
Reliable sources are linked in the article body. Please see here: Nirala, Narendra Narayan Sinha (2010). "Madhubani: A Contemporary History (1971-2011)". Proceedings of the Indian History Congress
There is also an upcoming book published by University of Washington Press. The title is “India's Mithila Painting
Edited by David L. Szanton and Paula Richman”.
As I said, more sources are in the references of this article. Kind regards! Ixudi (talk) 18:35, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
