Fair use rationale for Image:Mocky wood.jpg
editImage:Mocky wood.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Somali background
editAn editor has been removing reference to Mocky's Somali background from the lede on the grounds that "the description "Somali-Canadian" he himself is on record as saying is inaccurate" and that "Mocky is Canadian and wishes his Wikipedia entry to describe him thus". Besides the fact that, per WP:COI and WP:NOTADVERTISING, we don't edit Wikipedia bios according to the alleged desires of their subjects, the only link supporting this WP:REDFLAG claim is a blog. That is, it's a WP:SPS or self-published source, which aren't considered reliable sources for bios since "Anyone can create a personal web page or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason, self-published media, such as books, patents, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, personal or group blogs, Internet forum postings, and tweets, are largely not acceptable as sources[...] Never use self-published sources as third-party sources about living people, even if the author is an expert, well-known professional researcher, or writer". Moreover, in that blog link [1], the person identified as Mocky -- assuming it's even him -- actually admits that he is of partial Somali descent. He doesn't deny it (which, in any case, would take some doing since Mocky's real last name "Salole" is a typical Somali one), but emphasizes that he only identifies as "Canadian" rather than as just "Somali Canadian" since he is of diverse ethnic background and was born & raised in Canada: "I have a very mixed ethnic background including British, Italian, Somalian, Ethiopian and more, but I was born and raised in Canada and only identify myself as Canadian". Given this, I have removed the self-published source and restored the reliable sources identifying Mocky as "Somali-Canadian" [2], [3]; I've also added another from The Guardian identifying him as such (c.f. [4]). Middayexpress (talk) 19:35, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Name
edit"Typical Somali name".. what?? You seem to be implying that his Somali heritage can be ascertained simply by this name. However, here's what came up when I searched this name, Salole, on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/results/?q=salole&type=users
Ehhhhhh how many of those people are Somali? I count 0. No doubt he is part Somali, as he mentions in the interview. But he is clearly not half Somali, and the name doesn't even appear to come from any Somali heritage. More likely the Italian heritage which he mentions.
So yes, I can see how "Somali-Canadian" is not the most accurate designation for this man. But, of course, you're the authority (or was it God?) around here, and all Somali related pages will reflect your agenda.
Fucking moron.
- Actually, the name in Somali is rendered "Saloole". And yes, Dominic Salole/Mocky certainly is Somali-Canadian [5]. I'm sorry if this fact disturbs you, ip. For the rest, see WP:CIV. Middayexpress (talk) 15:39, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
