What is this?

I added the jargon tag because, despite linking to other Wikipedia entries, this article is impossible to decipher by someone who doesn't have a great deal of chemistry already. Why does the entry begin with citations rather than an overview of the theory and its significance? --Atomizer13 18:49, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I have made some changes to the lead. It began with the citations because these workers essentially defined modern VB as opposed to just VB or classical VB. However I have moved them down. I think anyone coming to this page is going to come from a page that itself requires a great deal of chemistry. It is typical or even clearer than many other articles on computational chemistry methods. There has to be a range of articles at different levels in science. This point was discussed on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chemistry if I recall correctly. I think the tag can be removed, but what do you think now? --Bduke 00:23, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

I'll think about that lead paragraph. Actually valence bond theory is no more related to valence than it is to molecular orbital theory. It needs to give some links to very general articles which themselves might eventually lead the reader to modern valence bond theory. It may take me a while to do that.
