Important Works Section

edit

I think it is important to have a section dedicated to the known and important works of Mohammad Zaman. Pickwickwoop (talk) 16:26, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

On Muhammad "Paolo" Zaman

edit

As far as I know, the identification of the painter Muhammad Zaman with the "Muhammad Paolo Zaman" mentioned by Niccolo Manucci is no longer accepted as fact

See Ivanov, A. A. “The Life of Muḥammed Zamān: A Reconsideration.” Journal of Persian Studies 17 (1979): 65–70. https://doi.org/10.2307/4299675. Footpathandstile (talk) 10:17, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I see this is already mentioned in the article, but you should probably remove the line at the beginning of the article naming him as "Muhammad Paolo Zaman Kermani" Footpathandstile (talk) 10:19, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Changes to incipit

edit

I replaced "Muhammad Paolo Zaman Kermani" with "Muhammad Zaman ibn Haji Yusuf Qumi", which is what's given in the Grove article on Muhammad Zaman. The identification of the painter with Muhammad "Paolo" Zaman is dubious, per Ivanov.

I also fixed some grammar issues.

Suggestion: update the date range he was active (it shouldn't be Fl. 1680-1700). There are signed works by him from the 1660s and maybe even earlier. See Axel Langer for specific dates. Footpathandstile (talk) 12:35, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Updating Date Range, Fixing Grammar, Notable Works

edit

I am editing the date range he was active to correspond with known works of his. I am also fixing the grammar on the Life section so that it runs smoother, removing unreliable information, and adding a notable works table.

Suggested addition

edit

Thanks for the table!

One suggestion: list some Khamsa & Shahnameh manuscripts he worked on, ex:

Khamsa of Nizami, British Library Or. 2265 (older manuscript; added some illustrations)

Shahnameh of Shah Abbas, Chester Beatty Library Per 277 (older manuscript; added & retouched some illustrations)

Quintet, Morgan Library MS M.469 (contemporary manuscript; inscription disputed)[1]

Shahnameh, Met Museum 13.228.17 [2] (contemporary manuscript) Footpathandstile (talk) 02:28, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much! Adding the illustrations in Khamsa of Nizami, British Library Or. 2265. Pickwickwoop (talk) 21:01, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Later albums that used some of his individual paintings: St. Petersburg Muraqqa (Institute of Oriental Manuscripts. Russian Academy of Sciences E-14). Davis Album (Met Museum)

Removing Maintenance Template

edit

Thoughts on removing the maintenance template saying that citations are missing? I believe the article is now cited correctly and all previous "citation needed" messages are removed, but I don't want to remove it before the problem is solved. Pickwickwoop (talk) 18:04, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Khamsa of Nizami

edit

Planning to add a new section dedicated to his works included in the Khamsa of Nizami manuscript. Section has been created with a brief introduction but more information on the specific paintings to be added. Pickwickwoop (talk) 19:40, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
