Sükhbaataryn Sürenjav

edit

According to the Mongolian article, the bronze medalist in wrestling at Mexico (second in the list) is Чимидбазарын Дамдиншарав. Budelberger (talk) 10:07, 27 September 2008 (UTC) ( )Reply

There are at least two such cases, where the ICO seems to have registered the wrong Mongolian athlete as medal winner in Mexico. Compare the discussions held on Talk:Tömöriin Artag and mn:Talk:Төмөрийн Артаг. Unfortunately I wasn't able to extract more conclusive details from the Mongolian editors (who should have access to better sources than provided so far). --Latebird (talk) 12:53, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay for now. Please give me a note at my talk page when you have more info. Miho (talk) 22:29, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
The "more info" is already in the relevant articles. Specifically, I've added a reference link to a page by the Mongolian Olympic Committee, which lists Tömöriin Artag and Chimedbazaryn Damdinsharav as medalists (with pictures) in place of Püreviin Dagvasüren and Sükhbaataryn Sürenjav. This should be reliable enough documentation that the contradicting entries in the IOC database are in error. --Latebird (talk) 00:52, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The team that just turned up

edit

During the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Games, Bob Costas anecdotally mentioned that the Mongolian team had unexpectedly shown up at the 1960 games to compete, having known nothing about the registration process and that they were allowed to compete. I can't seem to find any more info on the story. True? googuse (talk) 15:47, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

At first glance, that seems unlikely. One would expect that their soviet friends had instructed them very carefully. The article states that they first participated in 1964, probably based on information from the Mongolian NOC. On the other hand, for the games of 1968, the IOC database still has two mongolian medal winners listed with the wrong name. Apparently the events weren't organized quite as professionally back then as they are today, so everything is possible... --Latebird (talk) 17:46, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
