How do you add coordintes? the coordinates are: 51.812658, -2.716435--Coin945 (talk) 13:09, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Added coord - see article. I prefer the degrees/minutes/seconds notation rather than decimal. Plug in decimal, follow the link and it converts it. Then copy and paste the new values back welsh (talk) 21:44, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Glyndŵr's revolt

edit

Ghmyrtle has raised the issue of whether the following belongs in the article is off topic.

The turmoil and conflict in Wales during the ten years of the Owain Glyndŵr rebellion did not directly affect Monmouth Castle as it was a stronghold of the region and lesser targets presented themselves more readily to essentially a guerilla army. However other local towns, settlements and castles were directly attacked with Grosmont and Abergavenny being razed and Crickhowell Castle and Newport Castle successfully attacked.

I think part of whether this belongs here depends on the role of the article. It may be the case that readers will be intereseted in the local history, so finding out what happened in the area may be of interest although to be fair that may be better dealt with elsewhere. I think at the least it is worth mentioning that Monmouth Castle avoided attack because it was too strong as the revolt effected many castles and from the point of view of castle studies I would want to know whether Monmouth was invovled (not mentioning it could be seen as an oversight). When I started the expansion I left this paragraph alone as it didn't come up in any of the sources I looked at. I agree a short mention (perhaps the first sentence of the text above) could be left in but finding a citation for "nothing happened here" could be difficult.— Rod talk 08:04, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I have one or two offline sources and am gradually working on improving this and related articles. Although Monmouth is not mentioned in the article on the Glyndŵr Rising (an article which is largely unreferenced and may contain a fair bit of WP:OR), the town gate (but not the castle itself) is mentioned in relation to the aftermath of the battle (more of a skirmish, probably) at Craig-y-Dorth in 1404. (ref here). I haven't found any sources yet that suggest that Monmouth Castle "was a stronghold of the region and lesser targets presented themselves more readily..." - which may be a bit of local bragging without much justification. Aha, that could be possible. The sources are of course paramount in deciding what goes into the article so if they are silent that rather decides the issue. Nev1 (talk) 12:19, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
