Hey guys - a bit of caution here. Gallery's in Wikipedia articles are not encouraged. The one in this article is much too long. Imagine if you press print on this article? Or you asked for it to be included in a Wiki book - Why would you want a 100 photos of only loosely related stuff. Can we prune hard please? Actually a "commonscat" link means you don't actually need any of these images. An interested user can use a link to see the commons category if they want a 100 images or more. Totally agree. We also have a problem in that User:MonmouthMuseumWales, who uploaded most if not all the images, is now blocked because of their user name - which does not bode well for future cooperation with similar institutions and was presumably done by someone unfamiliar with what M'pedia is trying to do. Someone needs to speak (in person?) with the Museum curator, to explain WP policy on both these issues, and someone also needs to ensure that he is unblocked - ideally, with an apology to him. Hi, I hid all of the galleries since I thought if someone is a novice to wikipedia but came across the Museums wiki because of the Monmouthpedia stuff they could see some of the work but it also isn't cluttering the page up, is that alright? It looks a bit messy if anyone with better formatting skills than me could help I'd appreciate it. Also I'm not sure that Andrew (the museum curator) knows the account has been blocked since it's me who gets all the emails about it and I was away for 3 weeks when it happened.Rmcurran (talk) 14:37, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm no expert, but - per WP:IG - would it not be better to move the {{commonscat|Collections of Monmouth Museum}} box to a more obvious position, say below the infobox, and then delete the "gallery" content? I'll try that and we can see what we think - easily reverted if not. Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:51, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Current status?

edit

This article talks of MCC's intention to relocate the collections from the Market Hall to the Shire Hall, referenced to a 2021 Argus article. Do any, local, editors know the current position? Was the museum re-opened at the Market Hall or relocated to the Shire Hall? If so, what use is now being made of the Market Hall? Oddly, I can't seem to find much online, although this Google search page suggests the Market Hall museum is "Permanently closed", [1]. Tripadvisor suggests the same. This, [2] certainly indicates an intention to rehouse the Nelson and the local history collections at the Shire Hall, although this, [3] suggests the plans were dependent on levelling-up funding, and this, [4], suggests the MCC bid was unsuccessful. If relocation has occurred, both this page and the Shire Hall, Monmouth page will need some updating. KJP1 (talk) 08:20, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I believe the museum has now relocated to the Shire Hall, but have no idea whether it is fully open there, or what has happened/is to happen, to the Market Hall. I think it likely that this article, the Market Hall, Monmouth, and the Shire Hall, Monmouth all need updating. Is there no local editor who can assist? KJP1 (talk) 13:12, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
The most up-to-date information seems to be this and this. Sorry, I don't have any more information (and even if I did, I wouldn't be a WP:RS!). Ghmyrtle (talk) 19:44, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks. I shall have a go at updating. KJP1 (talk) 08:12, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Update

edit

I've attempted an update of this page to reflect the closure of the museum on Priory Street and its planned re-opening at the Shire Hall. Similar updates will be needed at Market Hall, Monmouth and Shire Hall, Monmouth, which I shall attempt shortly. I also took the opportunity to trim the extensive galleries, of which there were two. These had already been discussed (see above) and had become too extensive, including some images that were not of the highest quality. Very happy to discuss here, should any of this cause any concerns. KJP1 (talk) 08:58, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
