I object to the idea that Mme. Bovary suffered from monomania. What is the evidence of this?

Types of monomania

The source Psychogenic. and Somatopsychic Disorders Handbook contains only the example erotomania and does not mention the rest of the items on the list, nor the topic of monomania, which is today an archaic term no longer in technical use. Brews ohare (talk) 15:02, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

For some reason, I can't help but think perseveration should be related to this concept. It similarly involves fixating and obsessing on one idea. And why isn't Obsessive Compulsive Disorder regarded as related to monomania? Canadianism (talk) 00:40, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
