Competitions

edit

In the article mention is made of the fact that there are three competitions, Solo Piano, Guitar and Voice. Yet there is only mention of recent winners of Piano and Voice. What happened to Guitar? The local competition, the Tremplin Lémanique, is mentioned, but there is only one winner. And for clarity would it not be better if the competitions were combined in the categories. IMHO this article needs looking at. 77.167.212.162 (talk) 15:18, 30 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

Performance Listings and References

edit

Hi, in the past 48 hours several citation needed templates were added to the list of artists who have performed in the many editions of the festival. I found proper listings at the official site and added them to the ref list (unused ones are commented, uncommenting on demand is easy). However, the reference tags on the table make it visually polluted. I'd like to hear your opinions regarding the following choices:

  1. Should we attempt to list, in this article, every artist who has performed in every edition of the festival ? If not, I think the section should be renamed Notable Performances. If a full list is desired, I think it should go on a separate article, as it will be considerably long.
  2. Do we really need a reference for each performance ? Checking the official site is somewhat trivial. It seems cleaner to have a separate article with one section for each festival edition, list there all artists for each given year in its section, use a single reference per section (the year lineup links), then wikilink the detailed list in the See Also section of this article. If we decide on not creating a second article with a complete list, should we go on and add references to each performance listed here ? (it pollutes both the list itself and the reference section).

I don't really know how we're supposed to figure out which performances are worth mentioning and which ones are not. Perhaps the list of performances should just be deleted – no one probably cares to read it anyway. Yes, all information we provide should be well sourced. Note that when I started poking at the question of sourcing, it turned out that two of the first ten items that we checked were incorrect. That is not acceptable. —BarrelProof (talk) 23:34, 24 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I wrote a script to automatically fetch and format all performers from the festival website: User:fbergo/sandbox/MontreuxArtists, ended up with 2636 entries. Formatting as a table is not going to work. I will programatically format it into sections (by year) and create a new page. Making a complete list in the main article is not viable. Why bother? I suggest we just delete the list. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information (WP:INDISCRIMINATE / WP:RAWDATA). —BarrelProof (talk) 13:20, 25 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the removal of the performace list from this article. We should probably wait a few days and see if someone else wants to pitch in. Fbergo (talk) 15:19, 25 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
