Issue of his sexuality

A recent addition to this article repeats what is considered common knowledge that Moss Hart considered himself to be homosexual before meeting and marrying Kitty. While this is accepted as common knowledge by most theater people and I personally know a man who Moss made passes at when the fellow was a young man, that is Original Research and as such cannot be included. if we want to discuss his sexuality, we need sources and reliable onces at that. I would be inclined to list him as Bisexual given his long marriage and fathering of children. Also needing sourcing is the issue of his having undergone therapy (then called analysis) to overcome his homosexuality. Even "facts" held widely to be true need to be sourced. I have found this to be especially true on Wikipedia when it comes to issues of Bisexuality, Lesbianism or Homosexuality. I'll see if I can find any sources to back the new statements up. if not, they have to go for now. Any help other editors might give would be appreciated.LiPollis 08:25, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

The claim that Hart was gay is not supported by any source. Using the phrase "He was known to be gay by his friends" sounds like an attempt to use a famous person to promote an agenda. The article claims that Hart was in therapy for an attraction to men, but the actual source (Brenner) says he was in therapy due to his difficulty with women. Both sources (Bach and Brenner) state that Hart denied being gay, and both go on for several pages about Hart's strong marriage. The claim about Gordon Merrick is completely unsourced; it is not enough to say "citation needed;" the sentence should be removed unless there is a credible source. Indeed, the entire paragraph is gossip. Editors of Wikipedia must be ruthless when it comes to claims of homosexuality for subjects who cannot speak for themselves - unless confirmed by the subject, such claims should be removed.Catherinejarvis (talk) 22:59, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

After waiting two and a half months for some citations to appear, I have removed references to, and hints about, Hart's sexuality from the personal life section. Unless there is ironclad citations for this subject it has no place in the article.Catherinejarvis (talk) 00:09, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Danny Kaye

In this article as well as many others, Danny Kaye is stated to be bisexual or homosexual as though it is "fact," but in Danny's own article it's disputed....this kind of no-citation creep needs to be stopped....206.218.208.57 14:11, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm sure there are a lot of sources for the Danny Kaye thing. It was an open secret. I don't think there is any actual doubt about his orientation. Gingermint (talk) 01:19, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Hart's autobiography, ACT ONE

I was just reading the almost forgotten Act One tonight (got it free at the library-- being pruned from the shelves for lack of interest, I guess) and I turned here for some perspective. It's gotten better since I read it as a kid. It's become a beautifully written, and invaluable eyewitness document about a lost theater world. Several of them. I wonder why I thought it was funny, though, when I originally read it. I turned to Wikipedia to confirm a guess, and yes, it says he had bipolar disorder. Hart's disorder, which he himself calls "melancholia" and describes in one place with some wonder, is so obvious now even to this layman. Sometimes he goes from high to low in a single page. He's always being thrilled, then having his hopes horribly crushed. Poor guy. No medicine then, and very little psychiatry. Profhum (talk) 10:06, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

What advocacy?

I renamed and shortened the following section called "Advocacy":

In 1947, as a member of the Dramatists Guild of America Hart served as the tenth elected Guild president. There he continued his work for advocacy as president for almost 10 years, until 1956 when Oscar Hammerstein II became his successor.
