Hood Mountain, or Mount Hood?

edit

I just added the infobox, and found that in searching for it on topozone "Hood Mountain" did not work as a search term. Apparently the USGS calls it "Mount Hood"?

Should this be addressed in the article? Daniel Case 05:37, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

first of all, thanks for the great infobox. i will try to get around to addressing the naming issue in the article reasonably soon. the official Sonoma County name is Hood Mountain, and most of the web hits revolve around the Hood Mountain monicker, but there is some historical ambiguity. I think the present name is best to keep it separate from its more famed namesake in oregon. but your point is a good one and i shall address it in due course when i apply for GA status for this article with further expansion planned. Officially Mount Hood is the name of the mountain since that is the name assigned by the USGS but it is called Hood Mountain by both the NGS and Peakbagger.com. (See the citations in the article.) This isn't the only peak where this is a problem and IMHO its best to leave things as they are. A redirect from Mount Hood (California) already exists.--droll [chat] 03:29, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
