If Mount Nyiragongo has erupted a mere 3 years ago, wouldn't it be considered active, not dormant? Redxiv 07:43, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC) omac dormant —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.118.143.8 (talk) 08:45, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
GA Reassessment
editThis discussion is transcluded from Talk:Mount Nyiragongo/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment. In order to uphold the quality of Wikipedia:Good articles, all articles listed as Good articles are being reviewed against the GA criteria as part of the GA project quality task force. While all the hard work that has gone into this article is appreciated, unfortunately, as of September 12, 2008, this article fails to satisfy the criteria, as detailed below. For that reason, the article has been delisted from WP:GA. However, if improvements are made bringing the article up to standards, the article may be nominated at WP:GAN. If you feel this decision has been made in error, you may seek remediation at WP:GAR.
- The article is largely uncited. Half of it contains no citations at all.
- From the lead: "Nyiragongo and nearby Nyamuragira are together responsible for 40% of Africa's historical volcanic eruptions." Where did this information come from? It's not mentioned again in the body of the article.
- There has been a request for citation in place since September 2007.
- Why is there no information on the 2007 eruption? What about eruptions before 1977?
- The article should deal consistently with units of measurement. The infobox provides a conversion from metric to imperial, but the article itself does not. "... Nyiragongo's lava flows may race downhill at up to 60 miles per hour (up to 100 km/h)" presents imperial measurements first, whereas the rest of the article favours metric. The spelling of meter is not consistent; sometimes it's "meter" and sometimes it's "metre".
- It is unnecessary and distracting to link common words like "gas", or "fluid".
low viscosity but steep slopes - why?
editIf the volcano has characteristic low viscosity flows, this typically leads to broad flat cones. Why is this cone steep? 96.252.103.113 (talk) 19:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- Probably there have been past eruptions with high viscosity flows. --The High Fin Sperm Whale (talk) 01:44, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- That seems to be the case, according to the YouTuber GeologyHub's video about the volcano. ZFT (talk) 20:08, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

What is a lava bench?
editThe first paragraph refers to lava benches but Wikipedia has no page to explain that term. I've looked it up now, but shouldn't someone create a page? Ed8r (talk) 17:20, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
References in popular culture
editWould it be good to include a section for references in pop culture? (Novel and movie Congo, etc.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.64.155.48 (talk) 09:53, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
