Talk:Mousehole

Mousehole is also the name of a device created by mice for hiding in; some should Start an article called mouse hole for the device. --SuperDude 02:02, 11 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

A Mousehole is also the storage area for the next drill pipe in the drill string on drilling rigs. Magicwombat 22:59, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

So, I'm Starting a page called Mousehole (Drilling) Magicwombat 23:08, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Mousehole is often considered to be Llareggub in Under Milk Wood[citation needed]."

Surely Newquay in South Wales is considered by almost all Thomas experts to have the right to claim to be Llareggub?Serpren (talk) 18:29, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

See Laugharne.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 09:49, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The correct form of the name of the place in South Wales thought to be the inspiration for Llaregubb is `New Quay'(2 words, not `Newquay (1 word). Barney Bruchstein (talk) 20:17, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

The Lobster Pot

edit

My late aunt used to work at The Lobster Pot. I'm sure I can find some old photos (freely licensed of course) of the place if it would enhance the article. Astronaut

Distance of St Clement's Isle from the harbour entrance and its display.

edit

On checking the distance of the Isle from Mousehole Harbour by Google Maps the distance appeared to be about 350 metres. Could someone who has access to the ordnance survey map please double check the distance and adjust if necessary? Also would there be any objection if I removed the flipping of the display so that the metres came first as per MOSNUM? Derivation of the Placename

edit

Surely a glaring omission is an account of the meaning and origin of the village's name. For, whatever its actual pronunciation, I'm certain it is routinely pronounced as spelt, by outsiders, tourists and the casually curious who encounter the placename with delight while their eye roves the coastal map. Second homes & luxury apartments

edit

I've removed the claims about second home ownership, which had been tagged as unsourced for over seven years. While it's probably true (in common with many rural areas, including my own), the statements were vague and slightly inflammatory. The article might benefit from a section about how second home ownership has affected the demography and local economy, with some statistics, but thinly-veiled gripes about "outsiders" pushing out "locals" don't really have a place in Wikipedia ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 15:36, 9 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
