I don't know if scholars have discussed this, but at least some instances, the movable nu is present more often than it's absent in the New Testament, where neither avoiding hiatus nor creating a heavy syllable are concerns. In fact, just quickly scanning through Luke 22, -εν is the only third-person singular aorist active indicative ending I see, and I only see third-person plural verb forms ending in -σιν, never in -σι. —Mahāgaja · talk 13:48, 27 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
