Move
editI have redistributed the existing text between the three articles Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai, Movement for Democratic Change – Mutambara and Movement for Democratic Change (pre-2005) and some minor copyediting. A lot of work is still needed to improve the articles. Babakathy (talk) 18:39, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Movement for Democratic Change (1999–2005) → Movement for Democratic Change – The MDC has reunited.[1] Charles Essie (talk) 16:36, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose for now Movement for Democratic Change is a disambiguation and there's nothing in this article about reunification. Fix the article first to explain the various factions coming and going. Timrollpickering (Talk) 17:13, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
- The reunification of the party is actually mentioned in the lead section, but more info is essential. I agree that this article needs much more content about the various factions but that's no reason to not change a factually inaccurate title. As for the disambiguation page, it should be moved to Movement for Democratic Change (disambiguation), I really should have included that in the proposal. Charles Essie (talk) 20:43, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
Oppose I think it would make more sense to merge the info from Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai into this article, since Movement for Democratic Change is the current name of the alliance. The info in the People's Democratic Party (Zimbabwe) and Movement for Democratic Change – Ncube articles should also reflect this, since they have also reunited as part of the Movement for Democratic Change. David O. Johnson (talk) 23:14, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
- Edit: Maybe it's not necessary to merge it; we could indicate that the three other parties have merged into it on their respective pages and make this one the up-to-date one. David O. Johnson (talk) 00:00, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
- You haven't really specified why your opposed to the name changed. Charles Essie (talk) 03:13, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
- I see where you're coming from. I change my vote to support. The only thing I'm unsure about is, if we move this article to the disambiguation page, how would a user access info on the former offshoots of the party? David O. Johnson (talk) 00:33, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- We could import content from those articles over here. Charles Essie (talk) 02:25, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

I would suggest waiting a bit for now, to see what happens in the next weeks. In any case, the new(ly reunited) party can be referred to as Movement for Democratic Change (2019) with its own new article. – Kaihsu (talk) 12:59, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. The DAB at Movement for Democratic Change has five bluelinks and it really should be seven, as the See also section has two that should be entries, plus one redlink. This seems to really be a merge proposal. It should be discussed as that if so. Or, if a move, then a multi-move involving the DAB. Perhaps create a BCA in the draft namespace. But this RM just makes things more difficult. Oh, and remember we need to preserve the article histories. Andrewa (talk) 18:33, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- I actually do not support a merge. I favor including information about the different factions in this article. But I completely oppose eliminating their own articles all together, especially since some of them still exist (like the Khuphe-led MDC–T and the Matibenga-led PDP). Merge proposal
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was not merged. Merge tags had already been removed from the articles. (non-admin closure)
Isn't the Movement for Democratic Change (2018) the reunification of the Movement for Democratic Change (1999–2005) and not a new and different party? Charles Essie (talk) 21:03, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose merge, as joining the two pages together would be particularly confusing given the intervening Movement for Democratic Change – Ncube and Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai; my view is that readers would find the separation clearer. Klbrain (talk) 11:55, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Ncube
edit@Charles Essie: Movement for Democratic Change – Ncube should be merged with this article and the article renamed Movement for Democratic Change (1999), because legally, Ncube's faction was officially the legal continuation of the pre-2005 MDC. For example, Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai is not named Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai (2005–2018) Panam2014 (talk) 10:49, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
