editIt seems to me that one can make an MTI system using any number of techniques, not just the one mentioned here. For instance, wasn't the whole idea of the acoustic delay line in radar systems to produce MTI? And what about the long-lasting phosphors used on the Type 7 GCI of 1942? And of course, any doppler radar can point to moving objects, that's the whole point.
This may be a terminology problem, so does anyone have sources that clearly state that MTI refers to this particular method of operation is MTI, and that other ways of picking out moving targets isn't. After all, the "digital MTI' of the FPS-113 seems to contradict the basis of this article.
