Merge with James A Farley building?
editSince Moynihan Train Hall is the James A Farley building, would it be best to combine the articles? Rckania (talk) 07:16, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- Related but two discrete concepts, I think. The Farley article will contain the entire history of its prior use as the main NYC post office, which isn't relevant to the train station, and vice versa, especially when getting into details of rail service. I imagine we'll know more soon about how the Farley portion of the hall was reused and that portion will be useful for both topics. czar 08:28, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- I agree with czar's analysis. The existing building is going to house office space for Facebook, not just Moynihan Train Hall, so the two topics are not coextensive. Furthermore, there is a lot of history behind the planning of the train hall, as distinct from the Farley Building. I'm currently adding this history, which is sadly not covered well in the current version of the article. Epicgenius (talk) 07:12, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
NJT and LIRR
editThe LIRR's platforms are accessed here, and many NJT, which also uses Tracks 5-12, can be used here as well, so they should be shown in the infobox.--Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 00:18, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
The new train hall is designed for Amtrak only. Rckania (talk) 05:28, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- It appears the State of New York is the owner, not Amtrak. Cards84664 06:45, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

- @No Swan So Fine: Thanks for the review. I've added a QPQ now. Epicgenius (talk) 20:51, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
Should "services" be here or at the main Penn Station article?
editIf this is simply an expansion of Penn Station, as is stated in the lede–basically just a new concourse–then shouldn't this article not have its own station infobox? And shouldn't Amtrak services only be listed in the main Penn Station article? And if that's not the case, and this really is its own station, then shouldn't we remove Amtrak services from the main one, and state in the lede that it is Amtrak's main transit hub in NYC or something? It just feels inconsistent as is. Cpotisch (talk) 17:38, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Cpotisch, this is definitely just an expansion of Penn Station. However, it probably doesn't hurt to have station succession boxes mirroring those used on the main NYP article, unless there's a better infobox used specifically for portions of stations. Epicgenius (talk) 02:29, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Epicgenius Then I think we should have it say "Moynihan Train Hall at New York Penn Station" in the infobox. That's what Amtrak is calling it, and it makes it clear that it's not its own thing. Cpotisch (talk) 03:04, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Cpotisch Amtrak is calling the entire station "Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station" on their schedules page. As the old concourse is still open, this name appears to be entirely promotional. Cards84664 05:53, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- cards84664You suggesting we should just call it (or just use) Penn Station then? Cpotisch (talk) 05:57, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Cpotisch I'm saying my current revision with the use of infobox building is more proper. The station naming used by Amtrak (Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station) is immediately followed by a contradiction: "Amtrak has expanded its passenger services into the new Moynihan Train Hall, located directly across from New York Penn Station...". Cards84664 06:00, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- And as such, I've put an image of the train hall on the main Penn Station article infobox. (Moynihan Train Hall isn't the entirety of Penn Station, but it still is a portion of Penn Station) Cards84664 06:00, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Cards84664 Got it. I didn’t notice the change, but I am almost entirely in agreement. A couple questions/requests though: do you think the main Penn Article should perhaps have a two-image gallery with photos of each concourse, since LIRR and NJT are at least as much of a draw as Amtrak? And can you add a note in this infobox saying not to change it back to an infobox station without talking about it here? Not sure how to go about those two on my phone. Thanks. Cpotisch (talk) 06:08, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Cpotisch The new concourse has LIRR access too, just not NJT access. I'll see what I can do in terms of something similar to the GCT images. Cards84664 06:13, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- (headhouse, not a concourse). Cards84664 06:23, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Cpotisch Actually, that point is moot, the new headhouse can serve all three companies, not entirely, but a sizable amount. I think we'll be fine with the one image (until the main Penn headhouse is hopefully rebuilt). Cards84664 06:32, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Cards84664, yeah. The new headhouse is marketed as serving the LIRR and Amtrak, but to the extent that NJT can get to tracks 5-13, passengers from the headhouse can also use NJT trains on these tracks. Epicgenius (talk) 16:20, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

MTA ridership
edit@Epicgenius: It's a small thing, but can I ask you to unrevert my change (from [1])? The rest of the sentence mentions the subway station, yes, but the article doesn't mention the train hall's potential effect on subway ridership at all. I thought it important to explicitly mention that subway riders most likely won't use the new station (as the NYT source states)—I don't think it's implied by the sentence as is. —WingedSerif (talk) 23:32, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Wingedserif, sorry, I did not see this comment. I can change it back. Epicgenius (talk) 16:08, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Metropolitan Lounge
editI'm still looking for sources but I think the new Metropolitan Lounge is worth a mention. It's an order of magnitude bigger than the old ClubAcela, and far more comfortable. Mackensen (talk) 19:01, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
