editwI think this article could be very good. I'm willing to make it my project, does anyone have any suggestions?--Counter-revolutionary 13:01, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't this bit need clarification?
edit"For many years there was a ride at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom called Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. The ride was closed on September 7, 1998. The ride at Disneyland was re-dedicated on May 23, 1983." (my italics)
What ride at Disneyland? Is it a different ride? When did it start and under what names? Etc., etc.
Horatio Bottomley an inspiration?
editI recall reading a review (in 1983) in the Sunday Express of a new biography of Grahame. It mentioned that Mr Toad was based (I cannot recall how qualified the statement was) on "the fraudulent M.P. Horatio Bottomley", but did not expand on what way Bottomley was like the character. I do not have the biography, but someone with access to it could check this up.Cloptonson (talk) 06:28, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
Merge?
editShould we think about merging this article and Toad Hall (The Wind in the Willows)? I'd suggest Mr. Toad as the title. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:38, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Doesn't seem a bad idea, but given that the Toad Hall article is a lot more fleshed out at this point, I think it would make more sense to have that as the title since the resulting article would be mostly about it. Seraphimblade Talk to me 13:09, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- That is currently the case, but there may be decent sources out there to expand the coverage on Mr. Toad a bit. I wouldn't be too surprised if there's literary scholarship on him. Perhaps psychological, too. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:15, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Noting also that the Toad_Hall_(The_Wind_in_the_Willows)#History section isn't really about Toad Hall. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:33, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- I can see what you mean there, and also the section about what the inspiration for it was is rather poorly sourced (many of the links are dead and don't seem very reliable, and even the decent ones just make an offhand mention that this or that supposedly inspired it). So I think that section could be omitted from a merged version as well. Given that, I think it does make sense to have the article about the character, and Toad Hall integrated in under that. - Thanks! I'll look for some sources to expand this one, and if I get some good stuff in, I'll perhaps WP:BLAR the other one. I'm a bit ignorant since I've never read the book, the closest I got was watching some of this version [1] long ago. As an anecdote, the voice of Mr. Toad there is Peter Harryson, he also did the voice of Shaggy. His father did Doctor Snuggles and Papa Smurf. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:47, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- If you need any information from the book, please feel free to ask. It's one of my favorites and I've read it many times. It's also public domain, so you can easily find it on Project Gutenberg or elsewhere. Seraphimblade Talk to me 11:35, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- Noting Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Toad Hall (The Wind in the Willows), missed that one. @KJP1, hello again! I'm obviously not going to WP:BLAR Toad Hall now, and I highly doubt Seraphimblade is. Still think merge may be the way to go, but that's a later discussion, this article needs significant work first. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:06, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Seraphimblade certainly will not, given how strongly the AfD was in consensus that there should be an article on this subject. Seraphimblade Talk to me 09:24, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Appreciated. I absolutely agree that the Toad Hall article needs further work, but I think there's enough there as it stands to justify a separate article. There is a wide literature on the meaning of the hall, of which I've only scratched the surface. KJP1 (talk) 10:26, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe it's more Batcave or Wayne Manor than I think, perhaps Mr. Toad's cars has enough coverage too... Btw, with "this article" I meant Mr. Toad. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:35, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
