Orgins

Does anyone know the origin of the mudflap girl, if there is an original drawing, a model from whom the icon was based, etc?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.112.100.20 (talk) 03:59, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I came here to ask the same thing. -The Hams 19:02, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Mud Flap Girl was designed in the 70's by Bill Zinda owner of Wiz Enterprises in Long Beach California. He owned a semi-truck chrome mud flap emblem manufacturing company. Most of his previous products where based on the logos of semi-truck manufacturers. The Mud Flap Girl quickly became his fastest selling image, and eventually led him to sell his company. I was the original model for that image, I was in my early 20's at the time. The image was made from a sketch of my silhouette that was projected onto a white wall in his plant. He had me sitting on a scaffold in a dark area of his factory and he used lights to project my shadow on the wall, he then drew the original sketch. The next day I met with the artist that made the patterns for his laser cutting machine and she enhanced the image and redrew it as a pattern. I did not have any idea at time that the image would last more than 30 years and become so widespread. I had done some fashion modeling in high school and college. At the the time of design I was working as a registered nurse and was from a fairly conservative family so I asked that my idenity be kept confidential, only some of my closest friends knew about it. Many years later I told my family about the experience. I am currently working on a book that will include that experience. Judy C. Scantily clad?

How can you tell, if it's a sillhouette?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.7.3.219 (talk) 00:53, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Use of strong language really needed?

Hence, the middle finger. We like to think of her as saying 'fuck you' to the sexist beauty standard she is supposed to represent."— Preceding unsigned comment added by LayneH (talkcontribs) 15:54, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Feministing

edit

I believe that there have been several attempts (one was mine) to cross-reference this article with the Feministing article - one that has a link to this one. These edits always seem to get reverted, in my case due to a claim of linkspam (presumably because I included an external link as a reference). Since the Feministing article includes a piece on the controversy over the blog's use of the Mudflap Girl image, can we not find a way of making some reference to Feministing here? Would anybody object to an unreferenced sentence on the subject (without the strong language that LayneH doesn't like)?

Inaccurate?

edit

Wired has as story on this which completely contradicts this article. http://www.wired.com/autopia/2011/04/mudflap-girl-was-this-guys-mom/

I also find it disturbing that; there's absolutely no trace of Bill Zinda, the number of people who have claimed to have created this, the fact the trademark owner is creating a story. I suggest the article be re-written to reflect the unknown orgins and the many claims, all of which cannot be reliably validated. Dewdude (talk) 17:59, 26 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Original design

edit

I have proof of where the a original design came from. My grandfather has a picture with the "mudflap girl" from 1965 while working at his steel mill. Also we could do carbon dating on the piece since he still has the original one he made. The guy Ed was my grandfather's bestfriend and Ed stole the design which in turn lead to Bill stealing it from Ed. This shows you how disgusting humans can really be. While Bill lived a great life off my grandfathers design, never having to worry about anything from all the money he made. We struggled growing up, my grandfather and grandmother did everything to provide us with a good life as best as they could and now 81 years old they live in a 500 sq ft house that's literally fallen apart because they cant afford anything else. My grandfather is a good man and did not deserve that. So sad. But I know one day Mr. Ed and Mr. Bill will have to answer for what they have done to the lord 🙌— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1016:b001:6abb:ac9e:67be:b25c:51fb (talk) 07:08, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
