Suggested merge

edit

Actually I don’t have strong feelings about whether the two articles whould be merged, or simply better coordinated. Currently they don’t even link to each other! But I tend to think the former as if they are not merged the Municipalities of Italy article will need at least to summarize much of the material in Comune. That could all to easily lead to the two articles falling out of step.

Thoughts? —Ian Spackman 06:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

These are two separate articles. One is about the municipalities of Italy, the other about 'comune' in general - which relates back to the use of "commune" by the French, etc. The "commune (subnational entity)" was merged into Municipality, so if anything, Comune needs to be merged into Municipality. Sorry, I am missing something: as it stands the much of Municipalities of Italy is word-for-word identical to Comune. Isn’t that where you took the text from? Commune (subnational entity) last un-merged version] was quite different: it covered very briefly a number of countries and included links, inter alia to Comune (specifically for Italy) and Commune in France for France.
By the way, I am impressed by the map. Any chance of a vector version?—Ian Spackman 14:22, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Soon - I am working out the bugs of SVG and my mapping software. I am testing it with India... if it works, I'll apply it to Italy and others... :) Rarelibra 18:16, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Seperate articles do not merge. Gioto 09:14, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
It helped me greatly, looking up Comune. If they had been merged, I probably wouldn't have found it. (B. Diehl)
If Comune is merged, then it will become a redirect, and you could still find the information.AndyBQ (talk) 16:48, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Merge: They are not separate articles. Comune refers to municipalities of Italy, while Commune contains information about the concept in general. Comune and Municipalities of Italy contain nearly the same information, and are clearly about the same topic. The bigger question, in my opinion, is which name to use for the merged article. • Comment I share Ian's ambivalence. I wonder if one approach might be to have a single comprehensive article on "Administrative divisions of Italy" or some such, to cover the "theory" and bring together the otherwise fairly stubby articles on frazione etc, and then a separate list-type article for MoI - which could just be in turn a list of "Comuni of Province X" articles. Just an idea, anyway. FlagSteward (talk) 04:34, 22 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
