Delete the images, waste of time
editSomeone has commented out the images. So, please delete the images and I'm sure I have wasted my time in uploading the images. BTW, not all the images are about Munnar, but they show different places around Munnar -- Rrjanbiah 14:10, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- When the articles grows we could probably use a few more to fit in with the format. I have noticed that the images are still in the page program, so just leave them there for the time being, they look pretty good so it would be a shame to waist them. AdamJWC 01:26, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Indian scripts
editPer this discussion at WT:INB, only one Indian script should be used in this article. Of course, this may change in the future but at least for now we have a consensus of sorts. - Sitush (talk) 15:58, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Renoval of unsourced POV etc
editI have again removed unsourced POV etc from this article. Among the specific issues are:
andMost residents of Munnar are employed in the tea industry, or are involved in the tourism business. In 2000, the Government of Kerala declared Munnar as a tourist spot. This has helped in attracting more tourists to this beautiful hill resort. Several protected wildlife areas and the regions attractive climate area attract many tourists who support the many hotels, restaurants and transport businesses in Munnar and constitute an important, if seasonal, mainstay for its economy. Besides hotels, Munnar also has fantastic options for alternative non-hotel stays like homestays, guest houses and independent villas.
Located about 12 km from Munnar, The Park holds the largest viable population of the endangered (IUCN) Nilgiri Tahr (Nilgiritragus hylocrius). Spread over an area of 97 km2., this park is also home to several species of rare butterflies, animals and birds. A great place for trekking, the park offers a magnificent view of the tea plantations and also the rolling hills caressed by blankets of mists. The park becomes a hot destination when the hill slopes here get covered in a carpet of blue, resulting from the flowering of Neelakurinji. It is a plant endemic to this part of the Western Ghats which blooms once in twelve years. The last time it bloomed was in 2006.
Both of these sections are clearly written in an inappropriate manner and both clearly would require sources. Elsewhere, there is the small matter of focus: the article concerns Munnar, not places that are many kilometers away from it. We are not a travel guide. - Sitush (talk) 15:06, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, and as for the image gallery etc, well, we have a category at Commons for this purpose. The article was becoming swamped with the things. - Sitush (talk) 15:20, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
If the content is not following POV, then we can just add Template:Advert, so that other users can improve those paras, but removing the entire content doesn't seem to be constructive.
As far as image gallery is concerned, I know that there exist a commons page on Munnar, but images on wiki-commons are uploaded mainly for the purpose of their usage on wikipedia articles. Even is the content you have pointed out have issued like POV, image gallery has no such issue. Atleast we should retain gallery section. 213.181.206.9 (talk) 13:51, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- No. This article has suffered from dreadful puffery for far too long because of various (usually anonymous) contributors wanting to big the place up. A few regulars have tried to deal with it without recourse to administrative intervention but this has gone on long enough now. If it is not sourced and is not neutrally worded then it should not be here. The advert template is a cop-out.
You clearly do not understand the purposes of a Commons category link from an article here. Do you really think, for example, that we would show in Picasso ecery artwork of his that exists on Commons? We have to be rational about this and, again, the excess of images just made this even more like an advert. I realise that at one point it seemed almost as if the local tourist board were editing the thing but it simply cannot go on, sorry. - Sitush (talk) 14:20, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Adding gallery is nothing like advertisement. But the point is to depict the place's geography properly. Wiki has made no restrictions on addition of images. And how can three-four images be considered advertisement ? 213.181.206.9 (talk) 14:28, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- For the same reason as was said several years ago. I admit that they are nice images, btw, but I would also point out that they are fairly similar. We have a stunning one in the infobox and if you wanted to propose replacing the small one that sits below it with one from the gallery then I would not object. - Sitush (talk) 14:36, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Those images may appear similar, but they are different places. One is Munnar top station, other is tea gardens, another one is Munnar echo point. There is no repetition.213.181.206.9 (talk) 14:45, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- I did not say that they were the same. Since you seem to agree that they are similar, well, please can you explain what the reader gains from the exercise. To be honest, I am not even 100% sure that they are ok to use but that is an issue that will have to be taken to Commons. - Sitush (talk) 14:49, 10 July 2012 (UTC).
What the reader gets by seeing these images of different places is the knowledge of geography of different places in Munnar. Suppose there is an article "Cities in US", then we are supposed to add separate images of New York and Los Angeles, despite of the fact that both the images are very similar, both have skyscrapers. 103.3.47.34 (talk) 11:21, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- WP:OSE. Plus, these images are used on various other websites, some of which claim copyright. It is difficult to be certain if those sites really do have copyright because Wayback does not appear to archive them, but we can take no chances. - Sitush (talk) 11:52, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Oh comeon! Copyright is a different matter. And thats can be the matter of commons, not wikipedia. I know one thing that images are uploaded on commons mainly for their usage on wikipedia. Why don't u just delete image galleries of other places? 103.3.47.34 (talk) 13:00, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Woah! Copyright violations apply here and breaching them is a serious matter. Examples of usage elsewhere include here, here and here. I agree that those and other places may have got their images from Commons, but we do not know that and I am struggling to find a way to confirm things. Until we do, they should not be in the article due to the legal implications. You are welcome to assist. - Sitush (talk) 13:12, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
But I am still not convinced. As far as I understand, this image copyright issue is an artificial one suddenly created by you as an excuse for deletion of images. 103.3.47.34 (talk) 14:30, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Gallery
editThe previous section seems to have gone off-topic from the header topic of "unsourced POV", so I'm starting a new section to discuss the gallery. Clearly, four images are not excessive in a gallery, and only the first and third images have much real similarity. The first, second and fourth images (at the time of this post), are quite individual and worthy of inclusion. The question remaining from the previous discussion is the issue of copyright. That is a serious issue and should be addressed if there are any concerns. The first image, Image:Echo Point Munnar-Kerala.jpg, was uploaded by the photographer and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. The second image, Image:Tea Gardens at Devikulam, Munnar.jpg, is from Flickr, where the photographer has licensed it under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic license. The fourth image, Image:Munnar Top station.jpg, is from Flickr, where the photographer has licensed it under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic license. The third image, Image:A nice view of Munnar.JPG, may have issues. The file history for the Wikipedia version is attributed to User:Jungpionier, for whom I find no edit history. The Commons version says it was taken from the English Wikipedia, uploaded by User:Coolmallu1, whose talk page consists only of a notice for a (different) possibly unfree image that user uploaded. That image has since been deleted. It is possible that Image:A nice view of Munnar.JPG may be of questionable copyright.
If anyone would like to pursue the question of copyright for a particular image, then please do so. However, please do not remove images from the article where the copyright is clearly not in question. 76.105.171.161 (talk) 15:49, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Dates? - Sitush (talk) 20:20, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Rightly said by the user 76.105.171.161. Sitush, u shudn't have once again removed gallery. Ur doubts like copyright violation are completely absurd. -Panelequal.wiki (talk) 06:59, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Registering as a user and making a quick series of edits to skip past the semi-protection is not the way to deal with this. I will take a look at the 76.* IPs notes today. I note that they are mixed comments and as such I feel that the recent complete restoration of the gallery was inappropriate. A selective restoration might just have some merit. - Sitush (talk) 07:40, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

The line starting " Munnar (Malayalam: മുന്നാർ) is a town in the southwestern state..." is to be changed as " Munnar (Tamil: மூணார்) is a town in the southwestern state..." as majority of the people here speak Tamil. That is the reason why the Member of Legislative assembly (MLA) candidate must be a Tamil.

Someone please add the places of interest to the article. Munnar is the top tourist destination in Kerala and the article serves no purpose unless a brief summary of various tourist destinations is provided.
- Mattupetty Dam
It is a old dam constructed by Britishers.
- Rajamala
Here one can seen the Nilgiri Thar. It is one of the must seen places in Munnar.
- Kannan Devan Tea Museum
- Echo Point
- Blossom Park
- Attukad Waterfalls
- Kundala Lake
- Top Station
- Lockhart Tea Factory
It's an informative tourism. Here one can learn how a tea is manufactured. Basically it is a orthodox Tea Factory. Inside the premises a Plantation museum is also there where the olden Tools, Machineries, Olden Photographs of early tea plantation is displayed.
- Lockhart Tea Plantation
- 17 C Camping
“17 C Camping” is a idyllic Tea hill overlooking Chokarmudy hill(one of the highest peak in South India) which is located above 6500 feet from the sea level in Lockhart Estate with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. One of Munnar's iconic tea estates amidst low-lying clouds, fog filled valleys, lush green meadows, and manicured velvety tea gardens. Take a lonely walk through tea plantations, sip fresh tea, listen to your inner self, feel the super cold mountain air go through your spine and melt into the surreal settings of our campground. It is the only campsite in heart of Munnar. There will be minus temperature during Nov - Feb. It will be a freezing night stay in the Tea Plantation with thrill.
- Lockhart Gap view point
- Kallan Cave
- Periyakanel Water Falls — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gnan.prabhakar (talk • contribs) 08:12, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

And why is this article protected? I will myself add the details if you remove the semi protection. Also I do not see much disruptive activities in the page history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.39.61.144 (talk) 13:51, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
Not done as you have not provided any reliable sources to back up your request - and we would prefer a brief prose description, not a bald bulleted list.
You state "the article serves no purpose unless a brief summary of various tourist destinations is provided"
That is to misunderstand the purpose of our articles - this is not Wikivoyage or a tourist advice site, and we are not here to promote anyone's "purpose", only reflect what has been written in reliable, independent, sources.
You ask "why is this article protected?"
It was precisely because of the repeated addition of excessive, promotional, tourist "information" and pictures, combined with several copyright violations, that led to the page being protected.
The protecting editor's description was "the history of this article is ridiculous, nothing but edit warring and disruption has come from anons and new users"
I suspect, therefore, that it will remain protected, but you could apply for reduced protection at WP:RPP - Arjayay (talk) 14:27, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

Where to stay
editA new trend for staying in Munnar is Tent Camping in the wild. It is cheaper as well as adventure. Tent camping is provided in the following places

Kashmir of South India
editI would like to know whether the place Munnar is 'actually' known as Kashmir of South India or not. The reason why I ask that is because of the reason that from [link1] as well as from Lambasingi, I heard that it's Lambasingi. So, it needs to be verified whether its Kashmir of Kerala or not.Adithyak1997 (talk) 10:07, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
